Topic: RE: Preparing for Gastric BP with Fibromyalgia
I had my RNY 04/11/07 and I had been diagnosed with Fibro and I honestly believe that my RNY surgery has helped my Fibro.. its not nearly as bad as it HAD been.  Oh yes, I do have days when I just have to go to bed but they are few and far between.
Good Luck!

WOW sounds like you should get plenty of exercise just taking care of everybody. It's a delicate balance between getting enough exercisemand not setting off a flair. Water exercise is good if you have a pool available. Even walking is great exercise, maybe take those grandkids for a walk, burn off a little of their energy! I also use a stationary bike, sometimes you can find one cheap in the newspaper. I'm sure others will come along and give you more tips. God bless you for taking on the extra family responsibilities!

Topic: RE: Does fibro affect the tummy?
My dietitian and I are doing a process of elimination right now.  It could be a lack in Thiamine vitamin.  Get lab work done to see if there is a vitamin deficiency.  She said that could cause nausea.  Which I have been having a lot of lately myself.  I just wonder if it is a long term effect from using Cymbalta.  I have been off of it for almost a year and that is when my nausea started.  I was on the Cymbalta for about 6-9 months.  Does anyone else feel this could be a long term side effect note know by the FDA?  What are your thoughts.  (any thoughts and comments are welcome)

Welcome.  Sorry to hear about all your pain.  We can all relate to that.  I hope that with you being on Medicare you can get your WLS paid for.  That may help with some of your pain, but I don't thing (for me anyway) that it helps with the fibro pains.

I know without my pain management doctor keeping me on a regimine of medications (narcotics) I wouldn't be able to work or hardly get out of bed.  I do hope you find a doctor who will work with your pain issues and just monitor it very closely.  I don't know if the fact you did one drug makes you an automatic addict to another type of drug.  I guess that's what they might be afraid of.

Don't give up.  Come here and vent/talk/ask questions.  Keep pushing and asking and demanding with your healthcare providers and medicare to get the treatment you need to feel closer to healthy!  You have to take charge of your medical needs and don't stop until you get the help you know you need!  Took me over 2 1/2 years to get the right dx and on medications that are beginning to work for me.

As hard as it is, just keep pushing forward and know that you have folks here cheering you on!

Topic: RE: pain meds what works for u?
I'm currently taking Cymbalta 60mg a day. I was taking Lyrica as well but started feeling really weird and having stomach pains after surgery so weaned myself off of it. I was taking Ambien for sleep at night but since surgery the 10 mg leaves me with that "stoned" feeling in the morning so now I take Melatonin at night. Since the surgery and losing 57 Lbs I'm coping really well and feeling good. The few pains and headaches I have had thus far respond to Ultram kicked up with some Tylenol. Light exercise, stretching plenty of water good food protein really makes ya feel so much better. My Rheumatologist does all of my Fibro care.

Thank you Hislady, you are right about the lyrica, it's not doing much. I'm in orlando right now condo shoping, so all this walking is killing me. Being squished into the small airplane seat yesterday left bruises on my both my hips.

You'll see me around more in the coming weeks. I'm in the process of a legal seperation and moving, but should get back on here within a week or 2 to really connect with ya'll.

I agree with Vickie...I have the best pain specialist, but he's in Orlando. He's been a godsend for my fibro...that and the institute he works for invented an IV infusion that's designed just for people with fibro. It was helping me for a while until my veins decided they were sick and tired of needles and kept collapsing. Good luck with finding someone though.

Topic: RE: fibromyalgia so much pain
I know my pain has become debilitating since I had my surgery. They keep changing my medications. I am currently on:

Dilaudid 2mg 5x/day
Neurontin 100mg 3x/day
Cymbalta 30mg 1x/day

I have a few other medications too, but those are for other things. I've only been on these meds for a couple of weeks now (it's a new change in meds) so we'll see how it goes.

I'm not sleeping at night, just during the day and they have tried all kinds of sleeping aids and nothing helps. I'm currently on medical leave and have been for 2 months now. It's crazy. I just want to feel normal and not be in pain. It would be nice. Till then I'll just deal with it like we all do.
