Topic: Does fibro affect the tummy?
I suffer with lots of undiagnosed stomach pains. Upper abdominal pain........pains in my lower left side, and other areas too. CT scans and x-rays always come out normal. Sometimes it is difficult to eat. Sometimes it hurts after eating too. Doctors, of course, say they don't know and send me home to suffer.

Could this also be fibro?

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!

Thanks to all of you for your support. Unfortunately, my med availability is limited because I am allergic to most pain meds and am on Coumadin. I cannot take Cymbalta or Lyrica because it increases the chances of bleeding.........something I can't afford with Coumadin. I am only 32 years old........no diagnosis for my pains.........suffering with SOMETHING.......and feel my life is over!

Thanks anyway for all your support. Take care and God bless all of you.

You are not a bother. I have Fibro, too, and it has wreaked havoc with my life. The pain can be unbearable at times. I can suggest a couple of things that may help, first just start walking a little. Make sure you stretch gently prior to walking and invest in some very good walking shoes. I can't believe what a difference that can make! I also agree with the others that swimming or just walking in the pool is very "do-able". just start slow - 5 minutes a day, then add another 5 minutes the next week and so on. I was always an "all or nothing" kind of gal. I felt like I needed to walk on the treadmill at 4.0 speed for an hour in order for it to count as exercise, but with Fibro I have realized that a little at a time does really help. You could even try just sitting in a chair and marching your legs up and down. The internet has some great low impact exercise ideas for those of us with physical limitations.

I would like to recommend two drugs that may help and are NOT considered pain meds: I take cymbalta (120 mg) and Lyrica (3 100 mg tabs a day). These made a HUGE difference for me. I tried one or the other alone, but there seems to be something about combining these two drugs that truly benefits Fibro. I am also lucky that I can take narcotics. I take them in addition to the Cymbalta and Lyrica. Even still, I have major pain some days - but I know that if I didn't have these meds, I would not be able to even get out of bed and I could never exercise.

I hope this helps. I also wish you well and know that you always have us out here in cyber-land that can relate. Take care!!!

I am using amino acids to relieve pain naturally. I started with 1gram of Glutamine and 1500mg of Phenylalanine in the morning on an empty stomach. Wait 30 minutes before eating. Then at night I take 5mg melatonin. My go**** works! I am pretty much pain free!

Google amino acids for pain relief and do some research for yourself.

I take cymbalta 30mg 2x a day, Busprin 10 mg. 2 x day, morphine 15 mg 1x (at night) and NORCO every 4-6 hrs. That doesn't rid me of all the pain but it makes it tolerable most days. I take Lunesta at night for sleep.  I wish I had something to give me energy.  I work each day and it's a damn good thing I'm self employed!  I would be fired if I kept (or tried to keep) the hours I do now.  I work over 40 hours a week but they are not the typical 8 - 5 because I never know how I'm going to feel from one day to the next.

Thanks so much for the comments.  (BOTH OF YOU).

I had tried Cymbalta last year, but it made me so nauseated all year long, that I could not continue.  I currently take Liquid Prozac...had no idea there was such a thing.

I'm currently on Day #8 of a migraine...and yesterday I decided I HAD to take a NSAID...Excedrin for migraines..... I thought my head might explode...but no such luck.  ha ha.  The headache has subsided a bit, however the nausea has kicked in.

I mentioned that I saw a Neurologist this week.  I'm going on Mon for the blood tests.  Of course it will all be NEGATIVE... because that's how it goes, eh?  Sarcasm.....

I'm sorry to hear of your sciatic pain...I've had that too...I have scoliosis, and in that lower portion of my back is one vertebrae that is only partially formed, so it slips...above it and below it are 2 (ea place) that are fused together (from birth)... hence, the slipping one can become a nuisance, esp if I horseback ride...so I don't.  It's hard to try to 'relax' when you need to, and that adds to the anxiety, causing more muscle tightness...you know?  Well more later.

Liz

Believe in yourself and listen to how you feel!  You are NOT too old for WLS!  That is ridiculous!  I'm not 60 but if I were, I wouldn't let anyone tell me that I couldn't do something to improve my health when I know it's what I need to do!

Good luck in your journey!

I go to a pain management doctor and she has been really good.  I'm on pain meds and I take Cmybalta (30 mg 2 x daily).  The Cymbalta is for my depression and I've been on it for about 6 years, but it is also a drug that helps a lot of people with fibro.  I was dx with this about 2 months ago.  I've been suffering and talking to my PCP for 6 months (actually 2 years total but the pain and fatigue have been intense the last six months).

I've had a medial spinal block to help with my sciatic nerve pain which was extreme.  I just had it on Tuesday of this week and so it's still a work in process.  I may have to have another 1 or 2 before I get prolonged relief.  Right now, if my sciatic nerve wasn't hurting I would not be in tremendous pain.  I think this is due to being in a "remission" type place with my fibro.  I know everyone is different.

Not sure any of this is helpful but I hope you find the relief you're needing and in the way you want it.  I'm not real active on any of the OH forums but I do try to check in here every 2 or 3 days.

Wow Liz, you have certainly been through hell and back.. okay, not back yet, but don't give up.  I agree that you should NOT suffer in silence.  Knowing that there are others out there who are going through (to some degree) some of the same things you are helps.  Maybe not the pain or fatigue but it helps emotionally to know there are others here who understand and have felt similar.  I also agree that you need to seek knowledge regarding your symptoms.  It sounds like fibro to me too.  Knowledge is power.

My biggest pain right now is in my sciatic.  I have a medial spinal block this week to see if that will help.  I'm not had as much pain in my sciatic nerve, but I have still had some.  The pain management doctor I go to said that with the sciatic it sometimes takes 2 or 3 of these blocks (they can only do up to 4 a year) for any prolonged relief.  It's not a painful procedure but your activity is limited for about a week.

I currently take narcotics for the pain.  I've been on Cymbalta for about 6 years for depression.  Since Cymbalta is time released (and with the RNY we can't do time released) I take 30 mg. in the morning and then again at night.  I also take an older anti-anxiety med with my Cymbalta.  It helps boost the effects for me and makes a difference in how I feel.  I don't know the spelling but it's something like busproin.  Right now I'm semi laying on my right side in my recliner to help keep pressure off the sciatic nerve which was hurting about an hour ago.

This is all a trial and error process for each of us.  I hope you find relief soon.  Please come here and "talk" whenever you need to.

There are days I wi**** would kill me! But please don't suffer in silence, keep searching for help. Maybe try a pain clinic since they seem to have taken over treatment from the rhumys. Chronic fatigue quite often goes along with the fibro so actually sounds like you have both. the biggest difficulty getting an exact diagnosis is that there are no set in concrete symptoms where the doc can say oh that's what it is!The symptoms run the gamut. I would suggest getting on the internet and going to some of the fibro sights, if you go back on this forum you can find several sights others have found. Your best defense is information. For myself the only pain relief comes from narcotics and cymbalta. Yea lyrica seems to be a big joke for most of us. See if you can find a support group near you, there are more of them all the time and feel free to come pick our brains any time! We are all here to help!
