I'd had pain pre op.  Nothing that was diagnosed as fibromyalgia.

3.5 years post op  I have had more flare ups of pain, taken more vicodin, etc.

This year I was finally dx'd with fibro.  The pain is intense and hard to control.  I will be fine one minute and doubled over in pain the next.  I have finally been on meds for 60 days and am beginning to feel for most of the day like I want to live again.

Good luck.

60 mg Cymbalta  2x day

300 mg Lyrica  2x day

Vicodin as needed

Topic: RE: I HURT

I'm so sorry you are having that pain.    I too had pain in Jan 2010.  A particulary huge and still happening bit of pain.

I have been having bouts of pain for I guess most of my  life.   Every doctor said take aspirin, advil, tylenol.   Yeah, whatever.   They never touched it.

So 5 years ago, I blew out my knee.  My orthopedic doc said..1.  Come down from the 3rd floor

2. Lose weight.  3.  Here is some vicodin.

Another year went by, I was now walking with a cane, when I ventured beyond work and home.  I cried, I ranted, I raved about the pain.  Deaf ears, here is some more vicodin.

The winter was cold.  I don't do well with cold on a good day.  I went to my PCP.  She started pressing on different parts of my body.  Lo and behold I had all but two of the pressure points for fibro.  Then the doc says, I have suspected this for awhile, but when you say you are fine, I can't make a diagnosis.  Now it is fibro.   and bad.

She started me on a low dose of Cymbalta 30 mg once a day and Lyrica 75 mg at night.  Then when it seemed to help me she boosted it to 60 mg twice a day and Lyrica 300 mg twice a day.  I must say that the first couple of weeks on the Lyrica in the daytime was a little miserable.

So I take my drugs, they seem to help.  In the meantime I take my vicodin when I need a little boost in pain reliever.

It's been almost 60 days now.  I have good days and bad.   Now my thyroid is giving me difficulties, my tsh is sky high and the ultrasound on my thyroid says there is nothing wrong with it.   So I go next week for MRI on my pituitary gland and a thyroid scan that involves 3 scans over the period of two days with pills to take.

Get help, hon.  It may be post partum depression that is making it worse.  The doc told me that not sleeping at night seems to trigger more painful flareups.    I believe it.  When  I don't sleep well, I have a terrible day, but when I sleep well, the pain is almost insignificant.

My husband of 45 years continues to be amazed that I will be fine one minute and the next be wracked in pain and need my narcotics.

Some people, it takes 15 years to do a lot of tests ruling out other things before they diagnose fibro and get you some real help.  For me it was 12 years.

Good luck hon.

Gina is right, there are drugs specifically for fibro. Sometimes combining them with pain meds helps both work better. Ask your doc about Lyrica, Cymbalta and Savella. There are lots of other drugs in the anti depressant and relaxation areas that also help the fibro. If the pain doc isn't helping you might try a rheumatologist they also treat fibro. I wish you the best, it's just a crappy disease to deal with!

I am new to this board.  I plan on posting my intro & some questions later tonight when I have sometime.

I just wanted to say that I am so sorry you are in so much pain.  I know that does not help you.  But, I want you to know that even though we are probably all in pain daily on this forum, you sound like you are going through an especially bad pain flare.  Those are terrible!

I too take darvocett n-100, 1-4 times per day.  I can honestly say that on a bad day it just takes the edge off.  I do not even have an official diagnosis yet.  But, I have had chronic pain for the past 15 years with the fibro like symptoms really kicking in big time this January 2010.

The reason I am telling you this is because I have done a lot of research & pain pills are only one aspect of coping with fibro.  I think (I am no expert) given your post you need to be on something besides pain pills.  There are different options out there but I can't imagine going through what you are with out being on anti-depressants.  I can at least say I am not clinically depressed.  I know what that feels like & it sucks!

I have to cut this short. again I am sorry you hurt so much! :-(

I will write more tonight when I have time.

Be kind to yourself!

Topic: I HURT
Ok here goes, I HURT. I cry and scream and bawl my eyes out all day. I had RNY 3 yrs ago. I am 21 years old.  I had a baby last year.  I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few months before i got pregnant . Before i got pregnant i was taking lyrica twice a day and 100mg Ultram twice a day. During my pregnancy i took Vicodin 5mg 3 times a day.  After my baby was born my nerve pain and fibro have gotten worse and now i think i suffer from arthritis. I do see a pain management DR but i'm assuming my age has a lot to do with how they treat me. I am not looking for drugs i am just in a crap load of pain. I sit and cry all day. Someone else takes care of my baby. Currently i take Darvocet N100 two times a day and 100mg ultram two times a day. They don't work anymore i am in a lot of pain. My pain dr keeps telling me to exercise but i am having a hard time with my daily functions even walking far and bathing seem to take a whole lot out of me. Currently i can't work.  My meds wear off the little that they do help within two hours of taking them.  i think with my age i can't get help. I am not trying to get drugs i am in a lot of pain and will take whatever they give me as long as it will work. My surgeon isn't in the picture so he can't help i believe he has retired. Any advice??? I'm in pain and i want to have a somewhat normal life again.

I see a pain management dr but since i am only 21 i have that working against me because they think i have like problems or something. NO I"M IN PAIN.....I HURT!!! I have fibromyalgia that sucks too. I take Lyrica too. My email is [email protected] if that article is still available maybe i can show it to my dr. My surgeon isn't around either so thats not an option.

Topic: RE: Neurontin-anyone taken it?
I was diagnosed with fibro two years ago from a rheumatologist and I have been on a variety of things to assist in managing the issue.  Since then I also have degenerative disc disease, brain lesions which are still in the works for being diagnosed with MS and interstitial cystitis.  I have tried neurontin for a few months but I got too groggy and felt I couldn't function very well.  I personally didn't think it helped too much with the pain or management of the fibro.  I didn't notice any weight gain but wasn't on high doses because I couldn't tolerate it too high.  I am currently on epidural injections, tramadol, vicoden es, doxepin and xanaflex.  I too believe there are no two alike that have fibro and I have known other people who tolerate and do well with the outcome of takin neurontin.  I wish you luck and hope you can be pain free soon!

Best regards,
Jennifer

Topic: RE: massage anyone?
I was diagnosed two years ago from my rheumatolotist and Fibro is so frustrating to deal with in general.  I see a pain clinic doctor because I also have degenerative disc disease that I get epidural injections for that seem to help for about seven to eight weeks at a time at least for the majority of the leg pain but not usually the all over pain.  I also have interstitial cystitis which in some studies have been linked to having fibro as well so the reason I am telling you this ....lol is to give you a history and that at 34 dealing with chronic pain just flat out sucks!!!  I was prescribed tramadol which really helped take the edge of the pain during the day and didn't add to the groggy feeling the neurontin would give me.  I personally can't take neurontin.  I see a chiropractor and massage therapist that is covered under my insurance every week and I absoloutely love her!!!  I have been to at least twenty different therapists over the years and she is by far the best and specializes in fibro.  I am not quite sure what it is but I walk away feeling really great and there are only a couple of occasions where I felt slightly bruised and that could just be the soft tissue that gets extra toxin or edema build up that is a pattern for fibro pts.  I also live with a heating blanket and heating pad and seem to find relief with heat vs. cold.  That would be nice if you could get the hot tub approved.  I wish you the best of luck.  I have children too and was just taken off work two months ago and it is frustrating having to deal with all of this and more and after having lapband two years ago I thought I would have a new lease on life and become this avid work out person but when you are in chronic pain all day, everyday that for me is the furthest thing from my mind.  I wish you the best of luck to a pain free life!!!

Best regards,
Jennifer

Topic: RE: all these meds...and work?
hi I have had Fibroyalgia since 1985 . Went I was told what was causeing all the pain, & it had just started, that it would get worse. I was not going to give up anything. Back then alot off Dr. did not believe in Fibro. So there was not much out there for pain relief. I got so bad in 1999 I had to close my shop and retire at the age of 39. The best pain reliefs for me is heat, I go to the tanning beds in the winter. The cold is the worst time for me. I was on a lot of pills and yes I felt like I was stone.
Try celebrex I just stared them and I take them in the morning, they do not give you a foggy head, my memory has came back and I can walk a little more & now ride a bike . The lyrica help me sleep at night ,which is something I do not do. You can take both, but I got a rash from the Lyrica.
I hope this helps you
