Topic: RE: Neurontin-anyone taken it?
Hello, I started taking neurontin (gabapentin) 1200mgs all at night about 3 months ago. My primary doc knew that I lost over 100lbs and didn't want to gain weight. she told me that knowledge is power and that I should know that this med causes people to crave carbs and that is what causes the weight gain. I don't know if that is true but I became extremely mindful of my card intake and have has no weight gain whatsoever. I hope that is somewhat helpful to you. sometimes people gain weight on meds when they don't know that is a side effect and so it ends up being too late once the weight is gained. the medication works to give me a good night sleep but leaves me hurting during the day because with 4 kids I am unable to be tired during the day. I hope it works for you.
Topic: Less muscle pain?
I don't know if this will help anyone else but I just discovered something that lessens my achiness first thing in the morning when I wake up. I was sore the other night so put some Icy Hot on my shoulders, when I woke up the next AM my shoulders hardly ached at all. So last night I tried rubbing it on my shoulders and thighs and again hardly any pain. I don't know if others have a hard time in the mornings from being stiff and sore but it sure can't hurt anything to give this a try. I also sleep with my electric blanket on low even in the summer, it helps the achiness too. Anyway just wanted to share and hope it will help some of you other fibro folks.

Topic: RE: New here
I am also new to this site, have had fibro for many years, currently on no meds (but not without some pain) and scheduled for RNY on 5/17. I have been wondering if my upcoming surgery will cause a flare-up. Massages and water aerobics have been helpful in controlling the fibro from getting worse but I guess we'll see what happens!
I'm so glad to see this forum since only we understand the impact of fibro in our lives.
Good luck in figuring out the meds. I may be there soon!!!

Topic: RE: New to FMS and Feeling So Overwhelmed
I am new here also. I joined because I am having the sleeve done 5/11/10. I just happened to see the fibro forum..YEAH!
I was diagnosed at 32 with fibromialgy after 3 years arguing with doctors. I was so frustrated and depressed... Everyone seemed to think it was depression and nothing more, but I was only depressed because I hurt so bad all the time.
I agree you should consider a second opinion on WLS as my doctor thinks it will help . They say exercise however I have had major back problems and have not been able to exercise, I can not even walk around in Wal Mart for 30 minutes, as of last Aug I had a major back surgery where they had to put in a cage, so ontop of the fibro I hurt with back pain all the time as well. Both my back surgeon and my PCP thinks that wls will help my fibro and back pain so I am going to try it, I figure it sure cant hurt nothing. I am going to have the Sleeve since I do have the fibro and back pain hence I have to take nsaids and can not take those with the RNY.
I do pray you find some relief, I live with it daily and feel most people think I make it up. I would love nothing more than a miracle cure so we could all feel normal and live life!

Topic: RE: Chronis pain - Repost from RNY forum
Well after all that, it turned out that I had a vitamin B6 toxicity. After stopping my B complex for the pat 3 weeks, i'm almost 100% better. Energy through the roof compared to the last 3 months, almost all my back pain is gone. Shoulder still has issues, but I had a shoulder injury before.
Crazy how good I feel now! Thank you to everyone for your advice and kind words.

I had shoulder and hip pain pre op.
Post op it has flared into full blown fibro - complete with fibro fog, crying jags, intense pain in my back/shoulder and arms now.
Good luck, I also have some neuropathy in my feet from when I was diabetic.

Thank you Miss Kitty. In fact I have started to pray to Him daily, to help me to understand and bear this pain and still provide for my family.

Infections dont always show up on blood tests , i once had a sinus and bladder infection and really bad body pain at same time and neather one showed up in blood or urin tests but the doctor gave me antibiotics anyway anthe medicine made all my body pain go away along with the infection , so you might consider giving them a try ...also if you have a swayed low back it can put the rest of the spine out of wack including aspecialy the neck ..just some idias for you hope it helps
Topic: RE: best WLS for people with fibromyalgia
Have to agree with the 'weird' part... however that being said I must admit my fibro is a little less extreme since RNY... joints aren't quite as sore most of the time...
