Topic: RE: What pain meds do you take?
Sort of depressing reading these posts. I am due to have RNY on 5/17. I was, too, hoping that my fibro would get better. I suffer so badly from this damn illness, too. I'm no longer able to work FT and can't find PT in my field. Losing my home after 17 years, the Sherif's Sale is coming up in June.
Anywho - I take Cymbalta 60 mg 1x/day, Lyrica 100 mg 3x/day, Diclofenac 20 mg 2x/day, Tramadol every 4 hours. The Tramadol is just about as effective as the Oxycodone for me and is not a narcotic. I still take Oxycodone 40 mg once before bed time to help me get to sleep. I still wake up every 2 hours from pain. I was on Seroquel for sleep - but they took me off of it as it increases appetite. I have found that I actually eat more now that I'm off of it.
Does morphine actually help more than Oxycodone? If so, I think I may need to try that.
Try Tramadol anyway, it's less addictive and a non-narcotic.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

Don't know of anyone in your area but you might also post this on your state board. Anyway best of luck, a good doc is hard to find.
Topic: RE: misdiagnosed fibro
I have asked for MRI, CT Scan, X-ray, etc and they say it probably wouldn't show anything. (how would they know!?!?) I hurt my back a couple years ago and they tried an MRI. I could have sworn the fillings in my teeth were going to be pulled out! They had to stop the test, and they didn't believe me when I explained how uncomfoirtable it felt. I suffer allot of headaches now and have seen 3 doctors, scheduled to see #4 in July! Did any of them do a CT Scan, MRI, X-ray, etc........of course not! They just keep throwing pills at me that I can't take! (I am allergic to allot of pain meds) I am so beyond frustrated with these doctors!
I hope all goes well with your surgery. May God and His angels watch over you and keep you safe throughout your journey.
Take care and God bless.

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!

Brain Fog duhhhhh!
I was meaning to say when I finally got an MRI I had a blown disc right above my tail bone that made my tail bone pain excruciating. All that time and it would not have gotten as bad maybe had they just tested. Now I have had a lumbar fusion, another surgery to correct a complication from that after a year of suffering. An MRI would have revealed that earlier as well, but NO let me suffer again for a year with a spinal headache.
I have ruptured cervical disk now and surgery scheduled next week.
Just stating to point out that more testing could prevent more damage than may already be there. Not meaning to hijack your thread.
Best wishes,
Shannon

Have you had any MRI's? Just thought I would ask. I had the awful tailbone pain. Had for years and told lose weight and it would leave . HAHA! After I lost weight the PCP giggles and said, oh , u just lost all your but cushion. This hurt like heck and I don't me just a regular old ache and pain. I had a few months of tolerable pain when the first 100 lbs fell off in 6 months. I know moods help a lot so that could have been it or the release of all the serotonin in the fat.
After the losing weight slowed some I had tailbone pain so bad I couldn't sit. I had to start falling flat on my face to get Dr's to test with MRI;s and such. Finally I went to him black and blue with bruises. That was when the Dr rodeo started going all over the place. At least that did help my disability case for fibro and degenerative disc disease. I hurt even on a liberal amount of pain meds but I hate to see it w/o anything.
I hope you will finally find a Dr to help. I also fro time to time go to a PT that does dry needling. Its sort of like acupuncture but not. The needles aren;t left in , they needle the knots and it breaks them up. Some it makes go away, some it just works temporarily. There are not a lot of these type PT's licensed so you would have to look around. Dermatome charts are used created by a woman years ago. They show where pain is referred to and from. It is weird how she can work on one knot and it shoot a pain to my ear but my ear is no longer stopped up and jaw doesn't hurt as bad.

Not happy with current doc. Seems more and more impatient...not believing...though he has been my doc for 2 years. Came highly recommended and all my other docs know him by first name. DOn't care if he treats me like my pain does not exist. Calls me a hard case in a not so flattering way because of my bypass. Need help...like yesterday and am at the end of my rope! ANyone here from the area...that knows someone who is not afraid to treat pain?
THanks,
Stephanie

Topic: RE: So tired
I had no problems keeping the cymbalta and Lyrica down I took the medicine out of the capsules and put them in applesauce.
I take my Vit B-12 dots everyday. My last bloodwork showed everything is in the normal range. So I mostly think that its the Fibro.
Thanks for the replies.

Thanks, never thought about a pain center for dx. I thought they were only for long term pain management with a defined cause.
Topic: RE: What pain meds do you take?
Down 143 lbs., my fibro also has become worse since surgery. I think this is due to the fact that physically I am able to do more, but this seems to just bring on more pain. I am currently taking Cymbalta (no fibro pain relief from it, but probably a good antidepresant for me) and oxycodone since my hip replacement two months ago. Not only has the oxycodone helped with the post-op hip and sciatic pain (caused by surgery), but also have fould it to help with the fibro pain. To take the edge off of all the pain I've had to take 20 mg. every 4 hours, 4 to 5 times a day. I've tried to take less that the 4 pills at a time following surgery, but the med just wears off sooner. My PCP referred me to the pain management group to see if I could replace it with something else since she felt this to be too large a quantity of pills. I went to pain management yesterday, and was basically told that they don't prescribe and that she wouldn't recommend ANY narcotic for fibro - also she planned on emailing my doc to take me off the oxycodone. I was floored. I have had fibro for 25 years and hurt so bad. It has always been flared up following surgeries and I'm sure the post-op hip pain has contributed. My quality of life is so diminished due to the fibro pain, not to mention a head MRI ordered by a neurologist I a few months ago that showed "accelerated brain atrophy for age. I'm 49 - I didn't want to ask her how old my brain was! She had no answers for me of why this was occurring. I've since read some fibro literature that stated that the brain atrophy is related to being in a chronic pain state.
I headed back to the fibro doc next week to see if I can try something else beyond the P****er excercise, relaxation techniques, etc., I do on a regular basis. I work full time and try and maintain a home with my two sons, ages 15 and 20. It all just seems like too much right now....
