Topic: RE: What pain meds do you take?
Hi there...
My fibro has gotten worse since I've had surgery.
Im afraid its not good news...alot of folks don't find relief in having weight loss surgery for fibro pain.
I am currently taking:
Lyrica 150mg x3 a day
Opana 20mg x1 in the morning
Opana 10 mg IR as needed for breakthrough pain
Opana 40mg x1 in the evening
So far this regimen has been working.
I am currently with a fab pain doctor who is monitoring me closely and we are doing some holistic methods such as pepermint extract dabbed under the nose when I take my pain meds, and body work in the form of massage and meditation.
All opiates are addictive phyiscally.  Once you have been on them your body does get addicted, but you can mentally NOT be addicted.
It can be a slippery slope, one I have to keep a close eye on.
Take care...

Topic: RE: misdiagnosed fibro
Thank you, everyone, for your info and support. When I am in pain, I often forget that I am not alone, even when it feels like no one understands. My pains are mostly headaches, neck pain, back pains, chest pains, belly pains, tail bone pain, uterous pain, and rectum pain. None of them are diagnosed. I have seen doctors.....they've done some minor tests, and they usually come back normal. So, they often just throw pills at me and send me home to suffer. I am allergic to most pain meds, and other meds I cannot take because they conflict with my blood thinner, Coumadin. So, there's not much that I can do for my pains. I often pray, which does seem to help. I have a very sensitive body anyway, so it's hard to say if I have fibro or not. I saw a pain specialist who pressed on certain areas that were tender. He said I may have fibro, but I was never given a direct "yes" or "no" if I have it or not. Maybe I should go back and find out, or find another doc. Thanks again for your responses. God bless you all!

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!

Miss Kitty- I agree and sympathize with you completely!! I was diagnosed with fibro about a month ago. For my entire life I have complained of all over pain, I remember complaining that my legs hurt so bad, as a young child, and no one ever listened to me, they just said I was being dramatic. I have rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, my knees and ankles are the worst areas. About a month ago, I had such severe pain ALL OVER that I was in tears at work sitting at my desk, I had to leave work to go to my Rheumatologist. I told her I was in pain all over and the middle of my back between my shoulder blades, my neck and my chest hurt more than anything. She then said it was Fibromyalgia. I literally slept for 3 days getting up to eat a bite or go to the bathroom, for 20 hours straight I didnt even get up. It was terrible. THE worst flare I've ever had. Usually when I am flaring the doc says it's the rheumatoid arthritis, but auto immune diseases are wierd in that if you have one, you probably have another. I too feel like they say its Fibro when they don't have answers. I am lucky that I don't need narcotics at this point. Ok, I probably need them but I refuse them. I also refuse steroids. It's like I've been in pain so long, I just deal with it. It is soooo completely frustrating.

When I lived in ATL (1 year ago) I was going to Northside Pain Management in Buckhead at the Northside hospital.  They are good!

Thanks so much for your reply.  I may have to go to a pain managment doctor because my PCP typically will not give pain meds.  I really don't understand why they won't give meds to people *****ally need them. It's very frustrating.  The pain management clinic I called said that they had to have a referral from my PCP.  I'm afraid he won't do that.  I guess I need to make an appt to talk to him.  I just wish they could understand the pain.  I appreciated your input.  I scan this board often and read your responses to other people.  You do make a difference.  Thanks again.

Topic: So tired
Hello my friends,
I was diagnosed with Fibro going on 9 yrs ago. I had my surgery Feb 5th. I want to do more exercises besides just walking but my fibro is in the way. I have been so exhausted I have no energy even after walking.
My wls doctor says that maybe in the 4th or 5th month that I may see my enegry return and more.
But now I'm so tired I can barely make it just through my walking.
I take Cymbalta and Lyrica I have been talking those medications for a several years now.
Any suggestions or should I just deal wit it?
Thank you in advance,

I was diagnosed with fibro last year finally after several years of pain and I am 33.  My PCP wouldn't even consider fibro and it was very frustating.  He finally referred me to a pain specialist after several months and after spending a year with the pain specialist she gave me the diagnosis.  However, what I wanted to say is most doctor's are reluctant to diagnosis fibro because there is no real test for it, at least that is my experience.

Many of us have to take more than one drug for our fibro. Lots of us need a narcotic pain med. Myself I take a time release morphine plus oxycodone 4x a day besides my cymbalta. Depression does play a big part in the pain and it is kind of a catch 22 the more pain you have the more depressed we get and the more depressed you get the worse the pain is. See your doc and talk about other meds that may be added to the cymbalta. Sometimes you have to see an actual pain management doc to get results. Good luck!

I've been having a rough time lately with the fibro pain.  I ache all the time and it hurts to walk.  My hands hurt so much I can't even open bottles or door knobs sometimes.  I take Cymbalta for the fibro but am wondering if anyone takes another antidepressant in addition to they Cymbalta.  I think I could get through the pain better if I wasn't so depressed.  Thanks for your input.
