Topic: RE: Hello, I know its been a long time
I am "in process" trying to get WLS. I have had fibro since my teens..I weigh 370lbs and with some really hard wor****ep it in "remmisssion" as I like to call it. So ya being overweight doesn't help certain joint dysfunction, inflammation or pain but it is not the reason for fibro and losing it all will not be the solution. AS hard as work sometimes, the fibro can still rear it's ugly head but I have learned some coping skills, dietary restrictions, supplements etc.. but I have not taken any meds for fibro in years..It is hard at times but i made me realize how much of fibro was related to diet and also my mental well being..long drawn out story to explain all the stuff I do to keep it in remission
but just so u know..it can be done even when your BMI is 55..I also got rid of my fibroids and cured my back pain..funny western docs just think oh she's crazy..until they see my b4 and after u/s and xrays then they ask what did I do?..there is no 'magic pill' every case of fibro is different

I also had hopes that with this surgery the fibro would just ...go away.  And for a while it seemed like it had.  Then reality set in.    I am currently on Lyrica...which doesn't seem to help, until I stop taking it!  Then I can't wait to get back on it!! I have also tried Requip.  I take Endocet and Flexeril.  Anti-depressants help; my doc says that GOOD sleep is key, so I am also on Trazadone.  Hope you can find what works for you, and soon.  God be with you.

Myself the only thing that truely helps IS the narcotics. I take Cymbalta 2x a day, a time release morphine 2x a day and  low dose oxycodone 4x a day. There are other drugs besides the lyrica like the Cymbalta I take and  Savella. For some people muscle relaxers help also. Don't give up, keep trying meds till you find what works for you. Also read up on fibro so you are armed with the info you need to push for the best treatment you can get.

Topic: RE: misdiagnosed fibro

Fibro is a frustrating disease, to say the least and treatment is even more frustrating because what works for one doesn't work for everyone. You are not too young to have fibro, even children have it. I know myself I have had it since I was a teen, but back then they just said you were crazy. That's even more frustrating because you KNOW it's not in your head. First you have to find the right doc, either a rheumatologist or pain clinic, then they test for what they can and it's more a process of elimination than a diagnosis. Once they can determine it is most likely fibro (they also should test trigger points) then they have to try different meds because different people respond in different ways. You have to accept that this will be with you forever and learn what helps you, heat is often helpful for the aches, read as much as you can so you have the knowledge you will need to help yourself as much as possible, be proactive with your health and insist on being taken seriously. I wish you the best and feel free to ask any questions here, we will help as much as we can.

I've heard good things about all 3 of the drugs I mentioned above. Lyrica can cause weight gain in some so all you can do is try it and see if it affects you. The only sure fire pain meds I take are a time release morphine and low dose oxycodone 4x a day, but most docs hesitate to prescribe narcotics. You usually have better luck getting those if you go to an actual pain clinic. I take cymbalta besides the narcotics which helps, but the pain never completely goes away. I agree there's nothing like a nice hot bath. I also turn my electric blanket on even in the summer to keep my muscles warm and looser at night. Wish you the best and if I can answer any questions for you just holler!

Topic: misdiagnosed fibro
Is it me, or does it seem doctors diagnose people with fibro just simply because they don't know what else is wrong? I have been suffering chronic pain for a couple of years now. (headaches, neck aches, back aches, tummy aches, etc) I am tired of seeing doc after doc after doc and they never really diagnose me with anything, and just throw more and more pills at me that I can't even take due to the side effects.......and who wants to be on tons of pills anyway! Recently, I had a doc suggest I may have fibro. An older church friend of mine said I was too young. (I am 32) It just seems that when docs don't know what else to diagnose, that's when they give you diagnoses like arthritis, tendonitis, fibro, IBS, chronic pain etc......stuff that you are basicly left to suffer with! Hello Docs.............do your research! Do more testing! Stop throwing pills that are just supposed to ease the symptoms. Do the work and FIND A CURE!!!!!!!!!

Sorry..........I am just so frusterated and fed up with being so young and feeling so old..........I just needed to vent. Thanks for reading.

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!

I just found this board, don't know why I didn't notice it sooner.  I have fibromyalgia and am praying that since RNY it will get better.  I can't stand the pains I get in my feet and other muscles.  I am currently taking 20 mg of oxycontin twice a day for pain.  My doctor suggested I take an increased dosage but I declined as I do not want to build any more dependence on it.

Is there something out there less addictive that works better?  My doc put me on lyrica at one point but i didn't find it was helpful.

What do you do to relieve your pain?

Thanks Hislady,  I am currently on Neurontin, 900mgs a night, but during the day I ache too and haven't been given anything for that pain.  I cannot take the neurontin during the day, as even one capsule knocks me out, I have 4 kids and cannot go through the day like that.

What do you know about something that would keep the pain at bay but not make me tired.  Another thing I am doing constantly is taking a hot bath, that is the best thing so far.

Topic: RE: Klonopin
I do take Klonopin for pain. There is no difference when I take it and when I don't. However, I have taken so many pain killers over the years it might not be strong enough for me. Anything is worth a try
