I started the gabapentin but it made my heart beat so irregular I had to stop it.
We are all so different some can take a med  another one can't. You just have to really pay attention to your body, you know it best.

Topic: surgery and neck shots
Well after feeling sorry for myself a few days, I set my shoulder replacement surgery for April 19th. They want me to wait until after surgery then get the shot in my neck. Hope it all works.
When you have 10 things hurting and you fix one ya it is one less but what about the other 9????
Oh well I will endure ..... I am too stubborn not to....

HI Jennifer, I am also new this forum as well. I had RNY in 1999 and I lost 115 pounds. I have done really well with the weight loss and I have kept it off. I have gained a little this last couple years I have went from 145 to 165. I am working on it. I have Fibro and I have had it for a long time. I think when you have the weight loss surgery it actually will make the fibro worse for a while. Remember your body is going though alot of changes. I have found my fibro to have gotten better as time has went by. The only thing I take is anti-inflamtory and vit. D. I tried all the other drugs and didn;t like the way it made me feel. hope this helps you with your fibro

Topic: RE: Looking for a good doctor in Houston that treats Fibromyalgia
Have you tried finding a Rheumatologist. I had wls in 2004, was diagnosed finally with fibromyalgia since late 2007.. but that was after months of seeing both the neurologist and rhematologist for months- and doing every xray, ct scan, and mri possibly known to man seem like. I don't know how you're able to even stay awake with both Cymbalta and Neurontin, I take 600-900 a day and it makes me so tired, as well as the every day tylenol pm. I was really happy reading your post, not because of what you're going through, but sometimes it makes you take a deep breath when you find youre not going through it alone.

Hi there I just answered your PM and will answer here too. You are 1000% correct that weight loss will not cure the fibro! I can't believe how ignorant some docs are about this subject, if we as regular people can investigate this disease and find out what it involves I don't understand why they can't! This is a muscle and nerve disorder and has nothing to do with weight. Being healthier can only help in general but I had fibro just as bad years ago when I was skinny so I can say for sure it makes no difference. I think in the post below I put a couple of good books, you might do some investigatin and show the doc what the situation really is. Good luck with the pain management group, mine has been a God send.

Topic: Hello, I know its been a long time
Hi all, I know it's been a while for me posting. I'm not sure at this point on if I'm having WLS or not right now. Going back a little for those who may not know, I have had fibro for a while, actually diagnosed May of 07. Last spring I also got diagnosed with Lyme disease. I was trying to get a VSG and my doctor would not touch me until the Lyme was gone.

Okay so fast forward I had a Pic line and IV antibiotics for a little over 2 months something just didn't feel right, finally got an ultra sound done of my arm, I had a blood clot so I had to go to the ER and was admitted, they pulled my line and the blood clot went away. So then I went thru a period where although I wasn't feeling the greatest, as far as fibro goes, I was doing a little better than usual. Well fall and winter set in and forget it pain city. So I am having constant pain my rhuemy pretty much said she couldn't help me anymore and refered me to a pain management group. I go see them tomorrow. So here is my main question to you all:

My primary took blood a few days ago and said she doesn't see any trace of Lyme, (which doesn't suprise me becasuse you can have Lyme and unless you are testing very specific) or using IGenix lab, then results can come back inconclusive. So anyway...my primary said to me today, you know, your are almost 100 pounds over weight (like I didn't know it) and I'm sure if you have surgery and loose all that weight your fibro will be gone. Now I have been on these boards way too long and have heard way too many times that lossing weight does NOT cure Fibro. Can anyone here confirm my thoughts? Weight loss may make me feel better in general but the fibro pain is still there????

Generally a person will qualify for wls if:
1) their BMI is above 40 or they are 100 lbs overweight or
2) they have co-morbidities, like high blood pressure, high cholestrol, diabetes, sleep apnea, acid reflux (GERD).
Those are what would qualify you if your BMI isn't 40+.  As a general rule for anyone, being 100 lbs overweight automatically qualifies you regardless if you have co-morbidities.
Things like arthritis, won't qualify you.  They have to be "life threatening conditions".  If you read my profile on here, my BMI was 38.9, but I had a lot of the other issues.  Don't give up.
