Topic: RE: Surgery causing flare in fibro
I agree with all of the above.
Remember, your body does not metabolize anesthesia and other meds used during surgery, in an efficient manner. My doctor says to double the recovery time that a "normal" person might need. After a kazillion surgeries, I find that he was absolutely right.
As long as you are in pain, you will not become physiologically addicted. But, if you are on meds for a long time you can become physically addicted. Although, that is controversial. Some pain med doctors, say it is impossible to become addicted when in pain. But, you will build up a tolerance and may need to increase dosage or go on a stronger med.
Do NOT go off Valium cold-turkey--you could have seizures.
Hang in there. Love yourself,

I'm so sorry for your pain. You are not an idiot!
We try to help others and it hurts. You're a real trooper for trying to be so loving.
I know when I'm feeling a "little" better than normal, I do what my husband calls "killing snakes". We all have done, are doing and will do this from time to time.
I know it's really important to try to stay in that "bubble" of enough activity and not over doing it. But, I've never been able to find my bubble--forget staying inside it.
Hang in there.

Topic: RE: Now i need a shoulder replacement
Thanks, Pam, for your response. I know that in the past that all of the several surgeries I have had, pain has definitely been hard to control due to the fibro . I used the last oxycodone I had 5 hours ago and tried Vicodin about 30 min ago with no help so far. I was taking Vicodin at one point for the fibro (not much help then, so have a supply left.) I agree with you though - even with fibro I should have had some pain relief by now following the surgery. It's such a deep, pulling type ache pain with shooting burning type pain in the sciatic nerve since surgery, I had had an open RNY, but had to say that even as painful as that was, I was slowly having some pain relief each day. As much as I hate to, I might make a trip into the ER tonite.
Thanks, Anne

That does not sound right. I had two knee replacements 4 yrs apart and they claim knees are worse than all. I would go to emergency ward if you had to, something does not sound right.
Please let us know how you are.

I have a question... My doctor told me that she thinks mt RNY with improve my Fibro... Any thoughts?
Topic: RE: Now i need a shoulder replacement
I don't have knowledge of shoulders, but if I were you I would get the MRI to see what is going on in there. I had both torn cartilage in my hip with moderate arthritis and osteopenia. After 8 months of pain, 11 days ago I had a total hip replacement. I don't know if the fibro kicks up the pain, but I'm still in extreme pain on the max dose of meds(4 oxycodone every 4 hours) and run out of the meds tomorrow (sunday). I tried calling today for a refill and they won't refill this without being seen I'm told and the clinic is closed until tuesday I don't know what to do-show up at the er and try and get a refill? The original amount they wrote me for would have only held me over if I had only needed half of the max dose. This past week, I had called the clinic twice to see if it was common to be in this much pain and they weren't concerned since I don't have a fever and the incision site looks good to me, though the pain is almost unbearable.
Topic: Rest Day
After a bad fibro week and working all week there is nothing as good as staying in bed, resting and recharging one's batteries is there? I hope everyone else is having a good day .
