Topic: Lyrica: Thoughts?
Anyone here tried Lyrica? I have an appointment tomorrow and was going to ask the doc about trying out Lyrica. Anyone had any success (or problems) with taking Lyrica for their Fibro?

My back has been bothering me all week and my headaches are starting to return. I had to bump my Amitryptaline from 125 mgs to 150. And it hasn't really done anything this time. Usually it helps with the headaches for a few weeks, but not this time. And my fiancee has been "in the mood" more often, and I have to keep turning him down. I don't see how I can when my back hurt and I really, honsetly, do have a headache. I feel so bad for him because I feel like I am not doing my part in this relationship. He understands, but I hate dissapointing him.

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!

Definately mention it to your doc. I have Lymphedema in my legs. I asked my doc about Lyrica and she said that if I didn't respond well to Neurontin, which is a very VERY simular drug, then I can't take Lyrica. Plus, it does cause leg swelling and that is the last thing I need when my Lymphedema alone makes my legs look like they belong on a hippo!

Topic: RE: Ranting about the pain
People don't understand at all about any pain......chronic pain, fibro, migrains, etc. If I were a violent person, I would beat the crap out of them with a bat, and then tell them to "suck it up" or tell them to "take a hot bath,", or "take some tylenol" and everything else they say! When they start feeling better in the slightest, beat them with the bat again and say, "Oh, doesn't that just suck! And you thought you were feeling better!" (oh if only I could be so mean!) I moved to a new apartment last year ,due to a major roach infestation and the lanlord not really doing anything about it. People from my church kept telling me to put my computer, tv, microwave, and other too-expensive-to-relace-things etc in large garbage bags with moth balls and seal the bags to creat a gas chamber to kill them. I told them I can't because I suffer headaches and moth balls is out of the question. They just rolled their eyes, shrugged , and told me to take an Asprin. First of all, I am allergic to Aspirin as well as am on blood thinners so mixing the 2 could litteraly kill me, and second, it is really hard to get rid of the mothball smell. Again, they just rolled their eyes at the thought. They have no idea what it is like to live with chronic migrains and doing whatever it takes to avoid them. I am not going to use mothballs and just suffer! Nobody understands chronic pain, fibro, migrains, arthritis, and stuff until they go through it.
And have you seen those ridiculous comercials about Lyrica, Cymbalta, etc? They show the people all happy and living life as they should. I don't know anybody else, but I certainly don't feel that way after taking antidepressants and stuff. I just can't stand people's ignorance with our pain problems. Maybe the bat thing isn't such a bad idea after all!

I know I only took lyrica for a very short time because of the weight issue, like you I either didn't lose or actually gained. I also had issues with swelling from it so my doc switched me to cymbalta. I haven't had any issues with that except I reacted totally opposite from most people. It says it can cause drowsiness, not for me! It reacted like it was speed, I was all wired and couldn't sleep for a couple of days and I started on half the lowest dose! Once I got thru that tho it has been great, really helped the pain and the speedieness went away. I also found that it being an antidepressant really helped improve my mood. Even hubby commented wow I like whatever that is! Guess I was a lil *****y before! Anyway good luck hope you find something that works without problems.

I know that Lyrica causes water retention, but does it cause swelling too? My left foot and hand swole up before I started taking Lyrica, but it was only once and not for long. My right foot, ankle, and lowest part of my leg were swollen on Tuesday, so much that I did notice it, but wasn't too concerned. I went to the mall with my mother on Wednesday and by the next day on Thursday it all looked like a big fa****ermelon! Do you think the fibro or the Lyrica caused the swelling? Either way I think I'm going to ask my doctor to change my fibro med. I stalled for 3 weeks and then started losing well for almost 2 weeks and THE day I started taking the Lyrica my losing stopped. I have not gained any weight, but I have stopped losing. I don't know if this was just a coincidense or not, but I don't think I want to take my chances. I do not want anything to mess up or slow down my progress!!
Topic: RE: R U tired of people blaming your weight for your pain?!!!!
With fibro...we are going to hurt no matter what...Before surgery I was able to take meds that would help...but now with the weight gone I can't take meds...and all the stress from the negativity makes you hurt worse also...just tell them to walk in your shoes for a day and see how they feel...

I have the book, I got it, then I started feeling better since my doctor added a different medication to my regiment. My body is once again getting use to it and the pain is creeping back up. I'm gonna actually read the book, it really looks promising!!

I'm just being my lazy retired self! My lungs are bothering me so I stated on prednisone today, that should help some of my aches and pains too. Other than that just working on my yarn project for the year and that is to make kids hats and scarves for the Salvation Army to give away at Chrismas time. It keeps this old lady out of trouble and off the streets!
Hugs back to you!
