Let's Get To Know EachOther!
Had a few minutes to jump online before my busy day begins. Was thinking last night of everyone on the board... and came to conclusion that we need to have something regular that fun yet.... makes every knowledgeable about eachother. So... on Wednesdays I'm gonna start a thread that has 3 questions, some serious and some silly, that we can answer and get to know about eachother. Whattya think?
Sounds kinda fun to me, so here we go. Let's have some fun:
1.Post Op Only What new thing have you found out about yourself that you didn't know before since having WLS.
2. Where you named after anyone famous or a family member? In otherwords, is there a story to your name?
3.What's the one advice (non WLS related) that you try to pass on to others?
My Answers:
1 - That I'm not BIG BONED. Thanks Grandma for trying to make me feel better about myself and accept myself... but....!
2 - My mom and dad argued about names after I was born. My mom was getting discharged and had the paperwork sitting infront of her, tv set in the room was on Family Affair.. and.. welll..... personally I'm just glad I didn't get named Buffy!
3- You can chose your own brand of kindess.

#1. I have found out since WLS that hip bones and dice tables DON'T MIX well! The way the tables are built, my hip bones stick out now, and hit it constantly......leaving plenty of bruises. LOL #2. There is a big story to my name......Mary LaChelle Walker (maiden name) My first name is Mary.....and I am named after my Aunt Mary Jewell Walker. LaChelle is a combination of my parents names. The La is from my mothers name, Lauretta....and the Chelle is from my father's middle name Herchell......yes, my father is Herchell Walker....just NOT the football player! LOL When I was born, my parents recieved a letter from the state of KY that I was officially the ONLY child in KY with the name LaChelle. Since then, I personally know of two people with the name LaChelle as well. It is really kinda a cool. #3. Non-related???? It is, and always will be....DO YOUR MONTHLY BREAST EXAM!!!!!! Men included! My mother is a 10 year survivor, and I was her caregiver during her chemo. I always tell of what she went thru, and try to make others see that if we spread the word, and get checked, we CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!! This is why I am such a huge supporter of the Relay for Life!!! I NEVER want my daughters to have to go thru what I went thru with my own mother and her treatments.....no one should have to, and if we all work together, we can eventually find a cure for that dreaded disease! Now that I am done with my soap-box......it is time for us to leave! Have a wonderful day, and I will post when we get home tomorrow night!
You only have one life to live, but if lived right, it's the only one you need!
Jodi, this is going to be fun and I am looking forward to you posting it every Wednesday. I like getting to know everyone. 1.Post Op Only What new thing have you found out about yourself that you didn't know before since having WLS. That I do have some self esteem and that I can love myself just as I am and the way that God intended for me to. That makes me extremely happy! 2. Where you named after anyone famous or a family member? In otherwords, is there a story to your name? My sister Carolyn is the person who named me. She was 7 and a half when I got here and she was given the choice of either Brenda Joyce or Bonnie Lou. I am sooo glad that she named me Brenda Joyce. Then a several years after I was born my cousin had a daughter and she named her Bonnie Lou. 3.What's the one advice (non WLS related) that you try to pass on to others? I am a strong believer in the saying "If God brings you to it, He will get you through it" and also the one "God never gives us more than we can handle" but with this one I kind of change it and make it my own. I always say "God never gives me more than we can handle together".
Jodi, what a neat idea.
1. I have learned that you don't lose weight every day.And I blame my self, that low self esteem and I am always beating myself up,if I don't do well.
2. My full name is Ardella Gail Leinbach Owens. My mom went to a baby shower and someone said they like Ardella, so thats where that name came from. After my divorce, I started going by Gail and kept Owens so I would have the same name as the girls.
3.To be nice and caring to those I love and remember to tell them I love them. And I don't let people see me sad & cry, I am not a strong person but I am working on it. LOVE YA ALL

I haven't had time to pop in lately but here are my answers...
1. Food isn't the only way to get rid of stress...sex is an even better way and healthier too! 2. I was named after Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She was my aunt. Not really!!! I am actually named after her because my mother fell in love with the name when JFK was president. I'm thrilled because she was such a classy lady. 3. Love your kids. Make sure they know how much you love them. One day it will mean more to them than a clean house or name brand clothes. I'm my daughter's #1 fan and she knows it. It embarrasses her sometimes but she loves it!
