Hi Mommyluvstwo, I'm not familiar with that medical group, I have Blue Shield of CA and for my insurance it is required that you have a BMI of 35 or greater, complete a 6 month supervised diet/exercise program and have a daily log or journal as evidence and also have a doctor supervised weight loss attempt (which I think could be the same as the diet/exercise journal as long as you are seeing your doc and he is logging your progress. My doctor put me on weight loss medication (that didn't work unfortunately) and he said that was sufficient. Good luck to you, I hope you have better luck than I have had with my PCP regarding the surgery! Just curious - I noticed you are in California as well, did you go directly to a weight loss surgery center or are you being referred by your primary care doctor?

If you look through your insurance book, it should let you know the qualifications for the surgery.  If you can't find anything on there, try their website.  I was able to download the WLS policy for my insurance. Best of luck, Melinda
