Thanks, I'd appreciate that.  My friend has an appointment on April 5th and she's going to ask the dr and his staff then about medicare and the sleeve.  I'll post when I find out from her.

I too am trying to find out that answer.  There seems to be a lot of debate on whether it does or doesn't, or what the restrictions are if it does.  From what I understand, medicare doesn't  PRE-approve anything.  I have a call into my own docs office to see if I can get a little more information on it.  I will pass along as soon as I hear something.

Anyone had Medicare cover their VSG (sleeve)???  Just wondering .. a friend of mine has medicare and we're wondering if it'll cover the sleeve but it's hard to read through their mumbo jumbo website.  Any help would be nice.

Thanks
Ginger

Topic: RE: Insurance Help! Post Self-Pay VSG

I don't know if it's an automatic 5 year ban or not, but if you don't tell them, and they some how find out, you run the risk of having to pay back all of your medical expenses on that plan. If I were you I would be honest about the surgery.

P.S. How was your experience in Mexico? I was considering it myself because of my high deductible (10k). How much did you end up paying, including airfare and hotel?

Topic: Insurance Help! Post Self-Pay VSG
Hi All,

I've just lost my medical coverage and had a self-pay VSG last month (Mexico).

As I'm looking at purchasing a new policy, the all ask about pre-existing conditions.

If I tell them about my VSG, is is an automatic 5 year ban from getting insured?
Do I stay quiet to get approved?  My PCP doesn't even know I've had it so it's not on any of my medical records here

I just want to know what my options are to get insured.

Thanks!!

Topic: Still waiting for approval for surg, but BCBSNC has paid for all testing

The fact that the insurance company has paid for all of my pre-op testing such as labs, barium swallow, chest xray, ekg, nutrition and psych eval leaves me with my fingers crossed. My surgeon's office filed all of the paperwork for surgery approval last Friday. Have not heard anything so far.... (doesn't help that his bariatric coordinator is on vacation this week) !!! but I can see from the website it's In Progress!!!

Thinking positive thoughts here.

Topic: getting new insurance -best one for someone who is obese? (not seeking WLS at this time)
Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on how I should go about searching for new insurance?
Anyone have any idea what insurance would be the best pick and least expensive in terms of extra preniums for someone who is obese?
I am in AZ, if that helps.

I have checked a bit online and even had some things sent to me but it seems like specific weight cut offs for being denied or what you have to pay for a BMI above 30, for instance, aren't that easy to find.

I'd appreciate any help or response on this, and I'm really hoping I can find new insurance... I can't imagine not having health insurance,

Thanks,

Nia

Actually I'm in the process now. I have appealed this last time through my husbands union, because his company isnt covering it was excluded out of the plan as weell. You ever heard of" kill them with kindness"? That will get on their nerves,I think they got tired of me calling every month, but I sent them a letter, mypulmilogist, cardiologist, and PCP doc sent letters,so we shall see what happens next. Its in Gods hands now.I wish the best to you.
