How long did you stay in hospital? Outpatient/1,2 days??
I stayed four days but I had lung problems post-op (totally my fault and not the norm). My surgery was at 11 and my first real memory isn't until 8pm or so. Even without the respiratory issues I couldn't imagine going home the same day and really think that people should prepare for at least one overnight (the average) and be prepared to stay longer if need be. Its a very safe surgery and minimally invasive to be sure but it is still surgery and some of our bodies just need more time and help to heal.

My lap-band surgery was done on an out-patient basis last Friday morning. I arrived at the Hospital at 6:00am, the surgery was scheduled for 8:00am. The labs were backed up a bit so I did not have the barium swallow until almost 1:00pm. Then I was given something to drink [by that time I was very thirsty] and officially released after I urinated.
The out patient procedure was no big deal... at least to me. I am sure that your brother will do just fine.
