Speaking of "sizes", maybe you can tell me....

I have been heavy for soooo long that I honestly remember being in the "regular" sizes. I am 5'9 and my goal weight is 169. Does anyone have any idea what size that might be? I have said for years that I would love to be a 14....does that sound like the size I could end up at? (I am jealous that Naomi B. is already there!!). What do you think?

Well, I am 5'8 and have been overweight for awhile myself. But, I am thinking that if I can get to 160 - 170, I will be about a 12 or 14.... I'm hoping anyway!!! I remember years ago, just before getting married, I weighed 145 and was somewhat thin and wore a 10 / 11 (I have a large frame) I remember at about 200 I was in a 16 (regular not women's sizes)..... I have heard that because we've carried weight for a while, our bones are denser so we may end up weighing more but actually be smaller. Does this make sense? When I've lost weight before, I've ended up being in a smaller size at a higher weight. Must be true!

Bridget, I love that theory!!! Maybe I could actually be a 12??? Thanks for sharing.

Carol: (laughs) Regular clothing size depends on who you talk to - getting to a size 14 is up to you and how you work your band! A "regular-sized" (as in statistically "normal") woman in today's society is 5'4", weighs about 130-140 and wears a 12-14. If you listen to the fashion industry, tho, she's about 5'11", weighs about 115 and wears a size ZERO. I'm 5'10", 154, considered medically "normal" and I (keep in mind that it varies by company) wear a woman's 8 or 10 on the bottom and an 8/10 on the top. However, with my height, I usually still end up buying men's tops (in small) for the extra body length and little bit of added sleeve length. Hope that helps you - rather than confusing you further! Bette, it does make sense. You are an amazing success story! I will never be that "Barbie Doll" size and don't want to be. A NSV for me is to shop in the "regular" sizes and feel comfortable doing so. Thanks for the great info.~~~ p.s. I understand about sleeve length, I have gorilla arms myself!~ : - )

Oh, I could never be "Barbie-sized", not with these breeders' hips. I figure that I can't go any smaller on the bottoms, because the waistband wouldn't go over my hipbones! They barely fit over now. And I like to call MY arms "long monkey arms." My husband refuses to engage in any good-natured play (like poking, pinching or cutesy slapping) that would allow my arms to give me unfair advantage. My sister and I were talking about how neat it will be to NOT have to shop at Lane Bryant or Catherin's (STOUT Shop, that is actually what it used to be called. I am only 5'3.5" but I think I was in 16 and maybe some 14 by that weight. Been so long ago, can't remember back that far. I was glad that with my pre op weight losss I actually had loose clothing to wear home from the hospital. Robbie

Robbie, I have a thin (sz 10) and lovely sister. Fortunately she is lovely on the inside too and has been tremendously supportive. Count me in with you and your sis...can you believe Catherine's actually used to make use of the word "stout" in their name???? Sure made ME want to shop there! : p I look forward to shopping in places that make no mention of my girth!!
