Can NOT choke down protein drinks!
I just ordered Hank's after getting a free sample in anticipation of my surgery and his was actually tasty...especially mixed with 1 Tablespoon of peanut butter and 3 ice cubes (and water.)

I have found them to be pretty hard to drink as well, this is what helps for me. I bought the chocolate flavour and I mix it with warm water (NOT HOT). This makes kind of a hot chocolate and dulls down the sweetness a little. But it is very important that you use warn water not hot and do not put it in the microwave, I find the ho****er that comes out of my tap to be plenty warm. If your water is too hot it will curdle (GROSS)

I, too, had to choke mine down, but I "doctored" them up to go down easier. I used Unjury Vanilla and added 4 oz ff milk and 6-8 oz water. I also added 1-2 tbsp of sf-ff pudding mix (yes, the dry stuff). Chocolate was my fave and I added 1 tbsp of sf hersheys chocolate syrup. I could drink that and did! It was the only way for me. I absolutely HATED the Nectar.

I do not like any and I mean "any" protien drinks. I haven't tried every single one that is out there but most of the popular ones that many bandsters use I've tried even hank's. I just dont like them. I just ordered profect protien today. I have not tasted these yet but they are only 3 oz of liquid. If this one is nasty I can just plug my nose and drink it down like I did the cod liver oil and all the nasty medicines my mother use to make me take when I was a kid. HTH

A few suggestions.
First, I never used shakes. I made my own soups with lots of chick peas or lentils or beans. Liquidise to the appropriate consistency and you have a high protein broth with none of the articifical colourings, preservatives etc.. And you can make it taste of whatever you want.
Secondly, you can buy liquid pure protein. i don't know your US brands but I read about it on here from a US bandster and typed pure liquid protein UK into Google and found lots of sources. It comes in vials and tastes OK, especially as you only need a few swallows. If you are having only shakes at the moment, that would not give you the volume you want but you could use it to supplement soups (I didn't notice what stage you are at and if I scroll back, i always lose my typing so can't check it out!).
If you are just just post-op, you may not have to worry about shakes for long. If the band is working as it should, you can get all your protein form ordinary foods although some people are too tight in the morning to have anything other than protein liquids.

I am with you DISGUSTIIIING !! hate it all GAG !!!! Ive tried soy proteins and whey eeeewww so the only thing I can tolerate is slim fast ultima POWDER (CHOCOLATE ROYALE SHAKE ) w/ skim milk blended in the magic bullet (AWESOME) and heated like hot chocolate I tried to add the taseless protien power to it YUCCCK skip that LOL the soy protein powder in tiny bits (No way near the scoop they suggest can be added to cream of chicken soup and its a little grainy but I love this true lemon stuff its a packet like sugar but its real lemon it cuts it down so I can get it in hope this helps I have can after can of gross stuff I cant get down its like eating sidewalk chalk LOL good luck and try the Slim fast POWDER
What I like to do is, put 8-10 ice cubes in the blender, 1 to 1/2 cup skim milk, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, and a really ripe banana in and blend it all up. I think it tastes like a banana milkshake. The banana has to be real ripe, where the peal is starting to get dark places on it. This is where you get the real banana flavor. I have tried fresh bananas and you barely taste them. My daughter got me a new blender thingy and the cup comes off from the top, and you screw a lid on it and drink right out of the blender cup. She got it on clearance at Wal Mart and it is a neat little thing. You have less mess to clean up. It is called a Blender express, by back to basics.
