I adore figs, my grandfather taught me to like them :)  Do you wrap them with proscuitto?  Good luck next spring with your new garden :)

No, I just like them fresh and ripe.  They are so good for you and you practically have to grow your own because it is hard to find them fresh around here.

Phyllis!      I did the same thing!  I planted a fig tree and it has about a dozen big figs on it.  I heard the squirrles like them too!  I am also waiting for them to ripen!

Actually, the squirrels didn't bother them, but when they get ripe the ants find them.  Just keep an eye on them and get them before the ants do!!!

Well the funny thing is that I live in the Garden State and we own a produce store. We do not grow the produce we sell so I did plant a lil' garden in our back yard. That being said I went out the back door tonight and picked: cherry tomatoes grape tomatoes heirloom tomatoes basil rosemary chives  lemon grass  plum tomatoes I have to admitt I sent alot over to the neighbor because how many tomatoes can you eat? The best part of having a vegtable garden is sharing with your neighbors and our fuzzy friends.

All those wonderful tomatoes!  I bet you stay very busy with the produce store.  I go to our local produce guy at least once a week for fruit.  Neighbors are great for passing around the vegie surplus, we all fill in where the other leaves off :)

I can't even enjoy my garden this year I have a TON of tomatoes, cucs, beans, squash (yellow & green) that just came out and soon to follow watermelon and carrots. I start my 1 week liquid diet next week - then liquid for 2 weeks after surgey and 3 weeks of mushies ... What a bummer.

Congrats on your upcoming banding!  I hope everything goes well for you :)  I think you can make your garden work for when you're on liquids and mushies: You could make a great Veggie soup, just strain for liquids, or a tomato soup, chicken and veggie soup liquids or mushies, if you want help with any recipes just let me know :)

Katherine, We are actually very lucky. About four years ago we sent a letter to our customers explaining that if they didn't start using us for produce we would have to stop selling it. Our meat and potatoes are plants but the produce is a nice thing to keep people thinking about us in the summer. Well, little by little (like the little engine that could) our produce business has started doing well again. My husband is really the farmer at heart even though the business was in my family. I love to walk in and see : five kinds of heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, plum tomatoes, non-acid tomatoes local green beans, corn, basil, romaine, boston, red leaf, collards, arugula, swiss chard, rubarb, garlic, scallions, eggplant (purple, white, and ichiban), radishes, beets, celery, zuchini, yellow squash, round zucchini, cukes, pickling cukes, shallots, garlic, local peaches, ect. I will post some pictures tomorrow on my profile.
