1 to 2 pounds a MONTH!

I posted on the Main Board by mistake but our RNY friends have been really nice. I was suprised that some of them have really slow weight loss too.

I have restriction, I am logging calories, drinking water, exercising daily and following the bandster rules.  It will be 6 months tomorrow and consistantly for the last 3 months I have only lost about 2 pounds per month. I signed up for the 2 pounds per week program (lol). I spoke to my doc about it and he seems to feel that since my BMI is at 29, the weight just comes off slower. HELLO...I could have lost 2 pounds per month without having surgery. Has anyone experienced this weightloss stall?  What helped?  I know another fill isn't the answer. I have been concentrating on solid protein and 1200 calories a day. I am not hungry, I exercise but I am not losing.

Obviously you have to listen to your own doc, but my nutritionist told me to aim for no less than 800 calories a day and not more than 1000. She said I can go up to 1500 but I'd lose much slower. Also, you started with a pretty low bmi and I think I saw Dr C say the same thing. If you can do it on your own then do it your way and just let the band help you cut back on the calories to speed up the process even more.

I too could have lost 2 pounds per month without having surgery, I did it the year before, however I could not KEEP it off, so upon gaining (very quick I might say) 30 pounds of the 50 I lost, I looked into a way to keep it off.  I will be the first to tell someone. I did not get the band to lose weight, but to maintain the lost once I lose it.  I say just keep doing what you know work....it will come off and your band will help you keep it off.

your right..keeeping it off has been my problem. I think what worries me most is that I am only 6 months out with about 40 pounds left to lose and my weight loss has slowed to 1 -2 pounds a month already. I guess if I have to accept that I just pray it doesn't get any worse or it will take me forever to get to goal. I hope it stays off this time too!

Yes those of us with lower BMI to start with sometimes loser slower.  Also the body naturally will hit a stall, the body thinks it is starving and holds on to it.  I did the same thing, and it was so frustrating.  But then I would have a month where I dropped 10-15 pounds.  Keep doing what you are doing and it will come off.  I lost about 80 lbs the first year. Also sometimes if you will change something up a little it will get things going.  Track your calories, you may need to cut them back for a few days, or may even need to add a few for a few days so body gets jolted. Thanks, keep going you are doing great.  What an exercise program you have going.  Sounds like you are calorie deficient and are probably gaining muscle as well.  But that is not a bad thing, I have to get back to that.  I did so much better when I was lifting 2 days a week.  Actually stayed the same size wise, but gosh I looked better with muscle.  No flabby Abby.lol

I am sorry to hear your are losing slowly. I've heard to shake a plateau you need to change something. Eat a few more calories every once in a while or intensify the excercise one week. Just do something different to trick your body. Once your body gets used to having the same number of calories or the same workouts, it adjusts and quits losing weight. I haven't lost anything for two weeks so I am working out harder and cutting way down on my carbs this week to shake things up. Good luck. You can always be glad that you are losing and not gaining. I know if I had not had the lapband that's what I would be doing. Vickie

Thanks. I am going to have to shake up my metabolism one way or the other!

People at a lower BMI do tend to have a slower weight loss (that is the trend that is seen anyways).  One thing you might want to look at is how your exercise is going.  Are you in a rut?  Your body will find short cuts and ways to make it easier (and more efficient, and thus burn fewer calories).  Do you do weight training (help build muscle and burn fat)?  My metabolism is terrible.  I have to eat 1200 calories a day and do 1-2 hours of intense exercise to see a weight loss (even at a higher BMI).  Anything less than that in terms of exercise will cause a weight stall.  Exercise is crucial for me due to my metabolism.  Being unable to exercise right now is killing me!!!
