Phentermine . . .
I forgot to ask this question on my last post, but have any of you tried Phentermine since getting banded? I noticed someone else posted this question recently, but I was hoping for more of a response. Since I haven't been doing so well, my doctor suggested this as an option and I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this. Thanks.
I just got banded so no, I haven't used it after. I did use it for a 1 1/2 yrs prior and only lost 30lbs. I felt like I was on speed 24 hrs a day and was afraid of what I was doing to my heart.... occasionally I would get a little flutter and that was enough to make me stop. As soon as I stopped I gain all of it back and then some in a blink of an eye. I'm not trying to discourage you... this was just my experience with it.
Christy,
I took phentermine, for awhile and yes I lost a ton of weight, but with most medications they lose there effectiveness after only 3 months. So in my opinion it's a "quick-fix" that doesn't last all that long. Remember this, this isn't a race to see how fast you can lose all the weight, My dr said losing weight slowly is the best effective way to lose it forever. Keep the faith.
You can do this.
STAY AWAY!!!!!
I'm a clinical psychologist and I've treated no end of patients who have become psychologically addicted to stimulants.
Phentermine and phendimetrazine are two nasty drugs and can become quite habit forming. Worst of all, you build up a tolerence over time and start needing (and wanting) more and more.
Like I said, do yourself a favor and don't even consider that kind of poison.
That stuff is dangerous.I know to many people that took it and it cause heart problems. Not Phen-fen but phentermine. i took it a zillion times over. Never had any long term success. It always felt like I could not stop racing around. Iwould say just stick to the band andin timeit will work out! Best of luck!

Before I had porper restriction I did use it. It curbes your appetite tremendously and gives you tons of energy. Sometimes even headaches and nervousness. You need to watch out though because if you are not consistant in taking the med you end up eatin 3 times as much as you did before you even statrted with the pills. I have always done poorly with these types of meds because once I stop I balloon up. but, then again you could stop once restriction starts.
It's not easy being a MOM... If it was, dad's would do it!
Nobody notices what I do..... Until i don't do it!!!

I want to make a suggestion. Last Thursday I started taking a different chewable vitamin twice a day along with an omega 3-6-9 softgel. I have noticed a decrease in appetite, an increase in energy, and best of all a great night sleep. Its worth a shot I've tried all kinds of pres. and over the counter things and like everyone has said they only last for a while.

I took phentermine many times for short durations when i would go into a diet mode. About the only thing it was good for was getting my house cleaned because I'd lie awake at night not able to get to sleep. I'd find myself scrubbing the kitchen floor, cleaning the bathroom etc.
I can't envision taking it now. Even just the small amounts of weight I've lost already has given me the energy. If you're not gaining weight and just at a platea I'd not even consider it!
Just my 2 cents worth!
