How is your band during and after flying? Do I need an unfill?
I just got back from a 4 day trip to San Diego from Seattle.... (1st time after being banded 11 months ago).
How does everyone else do during or after flying with your band?
Do you notice gas/air moving up and down (out) with take off and landing?
How about becoming tight after flying...even if before you got on the plane you thought you really could stand to have a fill. (my last fill was April 23rd)
I did fine with drinking/eating on the flight out and the 1st day we were in San Diego but once I went to sleep.... everything after that was a "little" of a challenge, had to really follow the bandster rules (which is a good thing)....but it was just amazing the difference over night. By the time it came to have lunch at the airport on the return trip nothing was going down..... but finally got down a latte and few sips of water before getting on the plane.
Got home and WAS able to eat some soup and meat from a moist chicken thigh without any problems. But this morning....room temp water hurt going down and the latte is really slow... (but going down).
I'm leaving again out of town Friday (driving) returning home Monday.... wondering if maybe I should get a tiny unfil today, or wait it out one more day and see if things loosen back up over the course of the day.
Thoughts?
As long as you are able to get your fluids in, you should be fine, 4 days isn't terribly long, how will stress levels figure in there? For instance are you traveling for long hours (4 or more) with children in the vehicle? Do you have a tight schedule or is this leisurely? Are you going to be at a higher altitude for a few days? All these things can figure in to how well the band will behave. I refused an additional fill in March because I knew I would be on the road traveling for the whole month of April for my daughter's wedding and then on to visit relatives in different states, I was right, it gave me some trouble in the Rockies and a little the day and morning before the wedding. But damn, couldn't control the munchies worth a darn during the drive.

Cathy H Cathy Thanks for taking the time to post! :) We will be driving from Seattle (sea level) over the mountain pass to Enterprise, Oregon where the elevation is 3756 feet, where we will be staying 3 nights. It's about a 7 hour drive each way. Just hubby and I in a convertible (top down if the weather holds). We are going to see his side of the family.... so really no stress....at least until we get closer to home on the return trip with all the other holiday travelers! (road rage)
We are all so different. I have made numerous long and short haul flights, day and night time, since being banded. I take extra care because of the difficulties of getting to anywhere private if I did pb! But I have never noticed any effect at all.

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

AAwww......much better!!
I just went and had an unfill of .50cc, I can get down water NOW with no problem and was able to have some pintos and cheese from Taco Time.. I will stay soft foods the balance of today and try more solids tomorrow. Did not think that it was flying that caused it, but more the dry chicken breast in the salad that NEEDED to come back up
at dinner during the trip that started the nasty cycle that just got worse and worse as time went on.
I made an appointment for another fill for Thur, June 5th..allowing 2 weeks for the swelling to go down.

I have learned that I need to work really hard to stay hydrated when traveling and that I should eat "easy" foods when traveling. In other words, I eat a lot of flaky fish, soup, etc., when I am on the road. I love fish and soup so that is not an issue for me.
Good luck on your next fight!
