movies..popcorn?
We are doing the same thing today. I take one of those 100 calorie packs of beef jerky with me, and a water in my purse, and that keeps me satisfied longer. I have eaten some popcorn, but I find it hard to stop eating it and then I get too many calories. Planning ahead helps me. I know that they frown on people bringing their own food in, so I don't broadcast it, but bringing my own lets me make good choices and saves money.
Let's hope that the movie is good -- love the music!!

These choices are really up to you. Do you want to eat the popcorn more than you want to see the scale continue moving? It's very hard to measure portions when you're at the theater. They pop their corn in oil and use alot of salt. It tends to have more fat than other snacks and the salt can cause you to retain water.
Best strategy is to eat before you go and bring water or bring your own planned healthy snack. Is it the same thing? Probably not. But why has society taught us that eating when we go out to the movies, to socialize with friends, celebrate things, etc. all have to revolve around foods and certain foods??? Seems like we all buy into the BS that food makes it that much better.
If you go to the movies once a month and have some popcorn... not a big deal. If you go 3x a week, well you see the idea. Somehow we have to develop new behaviors after surgery to maitain our weight or continue losing while going out and enjoying activities. If we revert back to doing what we always did, we will always get what we always got.

I saw that movie last night two times in a row! I loved it obviously...you'll be smiling from ear to ear! Sorry, I can't help about the popcorn question. I'm still in the liquid diet phase. Movie popcorn is my favorite food. I didn't even miss it because the movie was so fabulous! Have Fun!

Yep, smuggle in your own snack. Even if you fix a 100 cal bag of popcorn at home and take it in, you can control your portion. But it won't be hot. If you want hot, buy a small popcorn at the concession stand and dump out part of it in the trash as you go into the theater. But movie theater popcorn has SOOO many more calories and more fat, even if you don't add butter!
I guess for me - going to the movies is a rare treat - I only go a hand ful of times a year. So I ussually get popcorn. However, I used to get the large tub -and eat it all. Now I get the smallest size - and find I don't usually fini**** - depending on my restriction level. I have not given up most foods - well, bread and a few others that give me problems I do avoid - but I guess I don't have any food in a forbidden category. I have found the band limits me - even when I don't want to be limited. 90% of the time I eat healthy - protein, veggies - limit sugar and carbs - but some of the time - I do indulge. This has been a lifestyle change for me - and I have had to find a happy medium - where I can be happy - and still be healthy. Beware - I am a slow loser - it took me a year to lose 70lbs - the scale doesn't drop quickly - but so far - it has been steady - and slow - and when I do find I have indulged - I don't find a quick gain. The key for me has been to step on the scale every single morning -to make myself accountable. I personally would vote for the popcorn for lunch - and then a very light supper. Enjoy your movie. Anne
I am with you Anne. I think you can't say certain foods are "good" or "bad". My nutritionist told me that if I have a craving once in awhile, to go ahead and have a bite or two of whatever it is, and be done with it. I have found that if I try to not eat whatever it is that I am craving, I will eat everything else under the sun to try and get my mind off of the craving, but in the end I eat the food I was craving in the first place. Crazy, I know! So, if you want to treat yourself, then go ahead. Just control portions, eat less for dinner, and maybe work a little harder at the gym the next day.
All that oil used for popping is still very high cal - so i smuggle in my own air-popped popcoram - 3 cups is less than 100 calories. I also smuggle in a bottle of propel and the soft beef jerky others mentionned. tee hee.
Just be sure to chew the popcorn very well - a bandster bite is one popped kernel at a time.
Enjoy!!
