Are we supposed to take Tums?

It seems like I remember Tums being one of those things that aren't something we're supposed to take like NSAID's. Does anyone know what their doctor recommends? I'm pregnant and have been getting heartburn most every evening now and I know Tums is safe during pregnancy but now I need to know if its ok with the lap band too. I never get heartburn so this is pretty annoying to me.

Good question...I wouldn't see why not. My doctor didn't say not to and I have had a couple over the last week related to indigestion with the food I ate (I assume because they fixed my hiatal hernia).

I am interested in seeing what the others say...

You baby ultrasound is ADORABLE!!

Everything happens for a reason so, I am taking it a step at a time. I can do it!

My doc said if I needed them then I should take one each night.  I hope the heartburn passes

Gaviscon is a better choice.

TUMS is Calcium Carbonate and as it leaves your stomach it triggers the supply of even more acid, more than you started out with.  Rolaids is the same.

Gaviscon... better.

No wonder those things never seemed to help me out... before banding that is. I had no idea they triggered ADDITIONAL acid. Geesh...

My surgeon asked me to take one to two Tums every day.  I take the Assorted Fruit Extra Strength 750's.

My doc also said to take one to two per day for the calcium.  They don't bother me at all.

I have terrible heartburn. I was using tums or rolaids.
Then I took 2 sips of milk and won't go back!
Try Milk!!

I've never asked, but I do take tums on occassion when I've eaten something spicy, just in case...
