a setback,. but not negative

Contrary to what some readers believe, I have always argued that not all band problems are self-inflicted! Some clearly are but others are no-one's fault. And, again, I have always accepted that a number of bandsters may require further surgery - I just disagreed with the very large numbers some people put forward!

Well I am about to swell the numbers! I have a leak! It's not a big deal as it is in the tubing on the port end, although not actually against the port - but it will require a minor op..

Basically last week I went for my first fill in over 2 years and it felt wonderful! But three days later, i suddenly lost every bit of restriction. My initial response was to say the fill must have caused it but I saw it on the XRay and it is not anywhere that could have been pierced by the needle and in any case, the doc got the needle into the port first jab.

But I still love my band. Had the leak been up by the band and a new band have been necessary, i would have had a new band. While i was waiting to see the doc. I was chatting to a woman who got banded 5 years ago - and despite some problems, she likes her band so much that she wanted her DH to get one.

It is hard for non-bandsters to understand, but even knowing I have to have another op has not shaken my view that, for me, this was and still is the best surgery.

Kate, I am, also, glad it is something fixable. And, always, I agree with your common sense approach. Good luck, Sue

I'm glad it's nothing too serious! Even though I am new at this, I think I understand your viewpoint. This tool might very well need maintainence, but it is worth maintaining and it has worked so well for you that I can definitely understand why you are willing to go through anything it takes to keep it going!

Good Luck & keep us posted!

Oh Kate.  As always, you are positive and honest.  Best of luck with the replacement surgery.

Sorry to hear that, Kate.  If you have to have another surgery to replace the tube, have you considered going ahead with having the whole system replaced with a newer version?  I don't know if that's a good thing to do, just wondering if you thought about it and what your surgeon thinks about it.  You would think they would come up with a version of fix-a-flat to plug minor leaks.

Cheryl - £2000 as opposed to £8000 to replace!! But woudl have done it if surgeon recommended but he says totally unnecessary!

That is a bummer. Do they have to replace all of the tubing or can they just cut and reconnect? If they only need to get in as far as the port it should be quick and problem free. LOL now we're both statistics!

Best wishes.
