backlash from strict rules
Although I am usually one to say you should follow the band rules (except the no drinking before meals, that one just never made any sense), your surgeons rules sound wacked. Never have I heard anything like that for a bariatric limitation.
Band eating is mostly just common sense. Get your protein in first, then veggies, fruits n grains. No foods are "never". Not even ice cream. Moderation is the key. Make sure you get at least 60g of protein each day. try to do lower carb, sugar and fat. I have yogurt every day, and cheese at least every other day.
Make sure you have lots of healthy snacks around the house:
Greek yogurt
Cheese
Nuts
Pumpkin seeds
Protein bars
Oatmeal
NSA canned fruit
Try using smaller plates and bowls, we tend to fill up our plates, and if you put smaller portions on a regular plate, it's very obvious you're not getting much. Use a smaller plate and fill that up. Then it at least looks like you're having a "regular" meal.
Go to www.myfitnesspal.com and set up a FREE account. It's easy to track food and water daily. You can set the number of calories you want if they set it too high. You can also go into the settings and change the grams of protein recommended for banders, (my nutritionist says 60-65) fiber (mine says 21) carbs, calories, etc. The program automatically sets up a program according to your weight and your goal, etc. But again, you can reset it to meet good bander nutritional guides.
I would be nuts if all I could eat was meat and more meat. I would be eating anything white I could find....maybe paper! Tee Hee
I drink Hood Calorie Countdown dairy beverage which has a good milk taste, low carbs and high protein. Hard to find.....WalMart usually carries it. If not, ask them to get it for you. The chocolate flavor is to die for mixed with Body Fortress chocolate powder from Wal Mart.
I'm not burning up the scales, but I'm trying. So don't judge my weight loss by my suggestions. Also, read Jean McMillian's book Bandwagon.
My nutritionist and I agree that I don't want to just "drink" protein drinks for my entire life. I want to learn to eat sensible, healthy balanced meals and exercise and get HEALTHY!
