I would seriously consider trying to get a revision approved. Yes, you wouldn't be approved for bariatric surgery if your original BMI was under 35, but you aren't seeking approval for a regular bariatric procedure, you're seeking approval for a revision due to a technical malfunction or complication. You'd have a serious chance at approval. You might have to fight for it, and possibly get a lawyer involved, but you would likely be successful. You need to see a surgeon that specializes in revisions.
Lap-Band 2007
Lap-Band Replaced 2011
APPROVED for revision to RNY! Awaiting surgery date!
I posted to your main forum post, but I'll be give you a brief recap here: RELAX.
Protein shakes are a big no no. It goes right thru your lap band. If you can eat what you did before your lap band in not correct. I have had mine for 4 years and have lost my weight I can still only eat about 5 ounces. I would go back and see your doctor or choose a different one. Good luck
You most definately need an endoscopy to see what is going on inside. It could be a slip it could be ulcers it could be a lot of things but I would suggest you start checking with your insurance to see what you need to do to get it out and revise if that is your choice.
This is a bad situation because it sounds like severe GERD and that can cause a great deal of damage if you don't get the band out in the near future.
Hi Blossomdog,
Okay, so you'll notice that I am NOT a proponent of the band at all due to the fact that I had a horrible banding experience, personally. However, you've made the choice, gone through surgery, and if you're feeling well right now, just go with it. Don't borrow trouble.
Be aware of the complications that do arise, but don't be paralyzed with fear over them. Follow your doctor's orders, do your best to follow the band diet/lifestyle, and take care of yourself. If you experience pain, speak up, get checked, etc. Come and ask questions if you need to. There are lots of folks who have gone through it all and will be willing to help.
Wishing you the very best!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I understand! My vagus nerve was also extremely damaged by the band (and a bad surgeon.) I had the band removed in 2005, but still have complications from it.
I hope you're feeling better now, KraaaaazyK? Are you recovered fully?

I had my lap band surgery about a week ago. All the posts about having lap band revision surgery are a bit scary. My Dr. never give me any indication that there were so many problems with the band. I know there are people who had Gastris bypass then went on to do lap band like Carnie Wilson. Are there some positive results for people out there with the band? Reading through the forums it's making me wonder if I made a big mistake
