Congratulations on 10 years with the band! You have done an amazing job. I've had mine a little over 8 years. Best thing I ever did for myself. I need to refocus and find my losing success again. Love reading inspiring stories like yours!
I got my band back in 2008. I just had it taken out a week ago, due to a really bad slippage. It's never really worked that great for me, and I am grateful to have it gone. I feel it was a horrible decision for me to have it placed. The band definitely failed, and I had no restriction at all.
I have 2 questions.
#1 - I am nauseous after eating - is that normal? I've pretty much been eating liquids and soft foods. I did have some vegetables and some eggs a couple of times, and felt immediate nausea each time. What am I doing wrong?
#2 - Why is it assumed that everyone who has a band removal gains weight? If you follow a good diet and exercise, couldn't you counteract that? Everything I am reading is saying, no. Why?
Thank you!

Tomorrow will my 10 year anniversary! I have had my issues with the band:
Unclip
Slip
Hernia
and finally a replacement to a large AP 5 years ago.
I have had two kids since been banded.
I started out around 300 - 320 and today I am 188! This is about my norm I have been down to 175 and that is where i would like to get back to. I had a tummy tuck (anchor) and a double mastectomy with reconstruction (preventative). My final surgery was just in July and as is typical with me I put on usually around 10 lbs since I cannot walk.
I am diligent on watching what I eat, and I have a set of tricks to get me through the hard times. I have tired so many types of exercise but I end up hurting my knees and back so I just walk, 5 days a week at least 5 miles and a few miles on the weekends if I get the chance.
I am 37, I have 3 kids (10, 5, and 4), married, and work full time. I use my busy life not as an excuse to eat crap but as a tool to NOT eat when I am not hungry. I plan every Sunday what I am eating for the week or I will be in trouble.
I love my band and I know I would never be where I am today without it. And today I am so grateful I made that choice!
Hi Sonja
Well if you were told or read anything when you were originally banded it would say 1% chance of erosion and Rare at best HA!! But the rate is actually closer to 5%-10%. Which I believe is close if not higher, Either that or everyone that has had an Erosion is in the Group that I admin. on Facebook because the rate is pretty high in that group.
Had mine for 10 years...hell years! Coming out next month.
As they line up around the corner we are very excited to announce!
Save the Date for the 2017 ObesityHelp National Conference!

I have the same issue.
The post about adding more hydration is true, and I have some go to foods at night like fruits (Peaches, grapes, oranges) and cold cuts like ham, turkey and sliced cheese. They are all filling with good nutrition and modest calories.
I had my band put in around the same time as you did, and had the unpredictable thing removed last month and a revision to bypass. Even though I'm still recovering, it's clear I'm doing better now. Please try and find a way to have your band removed as it will just continue to build up scar tissue as your complications increase. Your weight will continue to climb but your health will decline as well. Your road sounds just like the one I was on until a few weeks ago.
Well, my ticker didn't set up right. It says goal reached....NOT!
Good morning folks,
I used to frequent this site a lot right after my surgery in 2008. Unfortunately life got in the way and I quit doing the things that worked for me. RESULT - 30 pound weight gain! I am trying to get my mindset back and get back on track. I have scheduled a fill on 10/13 and am anxious to start losing and feeling good about myself again.
Just looking for like stories to share and support.
Have a great day!
