DD, if you're over 40 (and I assume you are) and the person(s) they hired to take your place or those of other employees over 40 are under 40 then you (and the others) may have a claim for age discrimination.  Be sure and not sign any severance packages they offer you in which you waive any right to make a Title VII or any kind of employment discrimination claim, if you think that is the case.     You might want to talk locally to a labor lawyer or just file a complaint at your local E.E.O.C. office to see what they can find out ..     Employers are free to hire cheaper or laying off more-seniored employees, but they have to be careful that, by doing so, they are not commiting age discrimination as to a class of employees in the process  ...      If the lay-offs have a "disparate impact" on the over-40 employees, then they got a problem ..  !

In the meantime, enjoy your unemployment compensation benefits, as you should be entitled to them (for what it's worth  ) ..   be sure and not waive those, etiher!

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )
