"World's Heaviest Man" (T.V. Special) Last Sunday

Don't know if anyone else caught it and I wished I could have posted in advance on here about the "triple feature" about Manuel Uribe that aired Sunday on cable (Discovery Channel?), but I didn't find out about it till after it had already started.     ..

The feature was very impressively done, starting off by repeating a show done a few years ago about him as he began his journey, and then followed by an update show that was filmed in 2007 after he had lost a lot of weight ..   The last of the triple shows was about his recent marriage to his long-time sweetheart.

A few interesting notes about Manuel, whom it appears is the heaviest person known to live in modern-times:

1- He decided to opt against WLS (offered for free by some WLS surgeons) after being given a "pitch" for the Zone Diet by a nutritionist ..      So far (obviously) he has done very well on it!      His success has been aided by the fact that his fiancee-now-wife has made sure to keep "bad" foods away from him      (vs. "enabling" him, as some spouses have done in that same situation   ) and making sure to bring him and even prepare the right stuff to eat ..

2- His sweetheart endured, despite facing the wrath of her family.      They had pressured her early on to leave him, threatening to disown her if she did not, believing nothing good could come out of their relationship.        She basically was forced to choose between the two, and stuck with Manuel (she, btw, is not obese).  If you are not familiar with Latin culture, that was one heck of a choice to make, amounting to a "familial death sentence", and shows how deeply she loves him (::sigh::) ..

3- Manuel was recently able to leave his home on the back of a pickup truck and take a tour of his hometown, which he had not been able to do in years b/c of his weight.     He still has a few 100s of lbs. to go to get to a normal weight, and b/c of his weakened leg muscles and lymphedema still cannot walk on his own.  As his weight continues to go down, hopefully surgical procedures and physical therapy will allow him to walk again on his own ..     In the meantime, to help augment his weight loss and improve his general health, he is able to do limited aerobic exercise using his arms ..

Manuel has his own website, where he receives fan email  ..  I think it's in Spanish, but you can click on an English version of same .  I don't have the webaddress handy, but a Google search should be able to pull it up ..

Batwingsman,

As usual your posting is informative and inspirational in that if Manuel can try to regain control of his weight than anybody can.

You're going to have to be cited though on a Men's Board violation - Over Use of Emoticons.  16, in a 3 emoticon zone, is way too many for a Men's Board posting!

  Oops

(that's the last one in this thread, I promise!)

Ya know, we need some custom ones just for our MF ..   Maybe one for "F.A.R.T.", like a guy with his leg lifted and a big smile on his face???

I started a thread a few years ago about that same topic.  The gist was a 3 emoticon limit and never ever -EVER- use the fairy on the men's board.

I remember reading that thread, or a rerun of it, about this time last year.  Saw the one too where FART was adpted as well beating out BONER.
