Are There "Lady Jocks"?

I was in a chat room I hangi n regularly on AOL earlier tonight and a new visitor popped in, named "JockSusan" or some such ..  

  Somewhat confused, I asked if it was a him or a her ..  

   Turns out our new arrival was a she, and she responded to my inquiry bluntly with "what's wrong, can't a gal be a jock?"  or some such comment ..        I then let hew know that a "jock" is thought of as a guy who is really involved in athletic endeavors, a built-up athlete, a muscle-head, etc.  (or at least that's how I've always seen it)  ..   I'm sorry, but I think of "gal" and "jock" as oxymorons ..  Sorta like "macho" and "lady" .. 

   Am I correct here, or has the "equal opportunity" craze really gotten the world standiing on its head anymore of late?  

   What do you guys think?  

I thought the term "Jock" was derived from the jock strap, which seems like it would only be of use with guys. Of course, there are women who are horse jockeys, and disk jockeys, so perhaps it is gender neutral.

I know this is posted on the Men's board, but being that you're on my friends list, this topic popped up in my "My OH" area.

While the term jock is generally associated with males and is derived from the term "jockstrap", it isn't necessarily gender specific nowadays.  It simply an informal term for "an athlete", although true athletes argue against being referred to as such, since it is often considered a derogatory term.

Then why post anything?  We are perfectly able to find a definition of the word jock but that's not how we do things here.    I would love for you to not respond to this post but that is not how women work.  You can't - not respond!  You will have to respond until someone truely insults you with something mean and nasty.  Only then will you be able to leave.

I have not been rude to you in any instance, so your rudeness is completely unwarranted.

"That's not how we do things here."  Are you kidding me?  How antiquated are you?  Where are these inferred rules available to me?  Furthermore, you don't want me to respond because that would be an indication that I am alive and able to think for myself and stand up to the fact you are a jerk.  Period.  Meanness and nastiness don't bother me.  Ignorance does.

As I have stated before, I merely responded as Batwingsman's post showed up in my Community Updates.  I had nothing more to say until someone chimed in.  I have zero desire to start a dialogue with anyone who has such a nasty attitude about them.  I was merely responding to the question.  There are male and female jocks.  Deal with it.
