What Do You Drink W. Your Protein Shake?
I've been trying to get back to "protein", in light of my regain, and looking at protein shakes, which are something I have never been fond of but know that many post-ops drink them regularly for their protein fix ..
Since many of us are lactose intolerant after surgery, what do you mix with your powder (other than plain water)?
I normally use soy milk for anything I add "milk" to, but am getting so burnt out on the taste of it ..
I've seen "rice milk" in the stores, but if it has the same effect on me that rice itself does (i.e. gas), that's a no go ..

I only drink Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack in the chocolate flavor and mix it with water. Trust me, the stuff's GOOD, no need to use anything fancy to mix it up. I just dump 1.5 scoops into 4-8 oz of water, add ice and shake. That's it. I LOVE my protein shakes, they are actually really, really good!

Jules & Lori .. where do you get the CNPWS at? Can I get it at a local store like Wal-Mart or Walgreen's, or would I have to order it online?

No sugar added vanilla almond milk (Almond Breeze by Dlue Diamond is the best tasting I've found). It comes in a cardboard carton, non-refrigerated. I can't stand soy milk, but I like the almond milk. Rice milk is full of carbs, if memory serves (which is why I've never tried it).
I've been adding lactose free milk to my protein shakes, of which I have also been increasing lately. I take about four ounces of milk, four ounces of water, chocolate shake mix (I am currently using Designer Whey, but just ordered a garbage can size jug of Champion) and then I add a 1/2 tsp or so of instant espresso powder. Two ice cubes, and shake it up in my roller ball mixer. I take my calcium along with it, because that endo doc I saw said that taking calcium with dairy facilitates absorption. You know Paul, it's not half bad! I was hatin' on protein shakes for a long while, and I'm really getting used to these.

If you can't find the Champion, I find that the 100% Gold Whey from GNC/Vitamin Shoppe tastes nearly identical.
I go for the double chocolate and previously was using milk to mix it but have recently decided to cut out those carbs and just use water. It tastes fine. I'm going to add a couple tbs of half & half to give it a little more thickness on the tongue but that's pretty low-carb.
I also like almond milk and hemp seed milk but haven't used those post-op.
