I shoveled the driveway... no slowblower.

We had about four inches of snow overnight.  I went out this morning to start the snow blower.. but no matter how much I pulled on that cord.. it wouldn't start.  I figure I was using as much energy trying to start the machine as I would shoveling the snow. So I got out the shovel.

Now, my doctor has warned me about the extra strain on the heart caused when a person bends over to pick up a load of snow.  So I guess you could say that I "pushed' the snow, instead of "shoveled" it.

I feel good.. Not even sore muscles. If you decide to shovel. be careful. take your time.

We got hit with 18" of snow and its coming down at 2-3" rate per hour now.  We've got an HOA that brings in plows and latinos for the white stuff.  Just sitt'n back watching Texas whip up on Carolina
Gonna stuff my calorie limit and then some today.  Snow shoveling makes me shiver thinking about it.
Will go skiing Monday or Tuesday.  That'll burn some cals

I was the snow blower when I was back in Utah . But I'm in Qatar right now the temp here is a balmy 72 . No snow here! I think the wife has a little (4-5 ins )but it has been cold as hell there . The snow there is very dry so its easy to move , unlike the snow in Calif. its wet and very heavy .

Good health and best wishes

It was a chilly 59 this morning at the start of practice, gotta love living in Florida.  Awesome job about being able to shovel without the snowblower though.   It is a great feeling to be able to do physical activity without being out of breath or having to stop.

Herc, very happy for you and that it went "uneventful", but what your doc said is VERY important, guys ..  One of the top causes of h.a.s are shoveling snow for the first time of the season ..      This is sometimes the first serious physical stress for some guys in many months, years, or even decades ..  What makes it doubly-dangerous is not only the physical activity involved, but the low temps you are in when you do it ..

I have posted before about how important it is for post-ops to undergo a full cardiac screening before taking part in races, triathlons, marathons, etc.    This includes an EKG (stress test preferred) a chest x-ray and an echocardiogram.  The echo will show if you suffer from an enlarged heart from years of high b.p. or other problems, which sometimes can show no warning symptoms.   If you were/are diabetic, you could have been having damage done to your heart muscle earlier w/o even feeling it (i.e. angina pain), due to central neuropathy.

Be careful out there ..   you had the WLS to live longer, don't forget ..

We had 21 inches of snow the week before Christmas. I was shoveling for 6 hours straight. When we had a lot of snow a year ago I could not even come close to that. 8 months post-op and down 175 lbs it was no problem. I surprised myself.
