Does beano really work?

Please share a bit more about "star anise infusion". Is it a pill - or what??
I cannot take Beano - as it states those who are allergic to Penicillin shouldn't.....and I'm allergic!
Getting my ducks in a row for 'after surgery' life. :-)

The fruit of the star anise tree looks an eight to twelve pointed star.
In traditional Chinese medicine, star anise is prescribed as a digestive aid and to help cure colic in babies. More recently, Shikimic Acid, extracted from star anise, is one of the chief ingredients in the antiviral Tamiflu drug used to fight avian influenza.

I am familiar with star anise - but was confused about the "infusion" part. :-)

Karen - it's been YEARS since I've read the back of a Beano bottle....so I'm going on possibly 'old' information. It could be different now.
DO check the back of the bottle, though. :-)

To infuse, bring the water and the( 5 stars for two cups of water) star anise to a boil, then cover the pot and let steep 20-30 minutes. Strain and discard the star anise retain the hot infusion. Cool and use immediately, or store in the refrigerator for up to a day.
Check Asian Supermarkets or Health Food Stores.
