I am so glad to hear that you had a positive experience. I leave next Thursday traveling to TJ and you have greatly eased my mind (especially with all this transition stuff going on). Congrats on the beginning of your new journey! Quick question, if you know, what are you getting for pain (if you need anything)? I have heard that it isn't very strong and I am worried about post op pain, especially with a 30 hour car trip on the way back. My doctor wanted me to find out, because he said he would prescribe me something stronger if needed.

Congrats again!

I went to Dr. Guillermo Alvarez in Piedras Negras. He has done over 6,000 surgeries. He is amazing!

Topic: Long time lurker...first time poster. Questions about RECOVERY

Hi there!

So, I have been looking at my options for years now in terms of bariatric surgery.

I have picked my surgeon and picked my date.  I'm just waiting for the doctor to review my health survey and approve me before I pay my deposit.

While I know all about the logistics... I am really curious about recovery. I am getting a sleeve.

What is the pain like?  How long did it last for you?  I have a fairly physical job that requires some lifting and being on my feet all day.  How much time should I take off work?

I understand that everyone is different and different folks recover differently.  I just want to be as prepared as possible.  Looking at going in May if I'm able to.

Topic: My experience with Dr. Lopez and VIDA hospital

I'm still in TJ, I had my VSG single incision on yesterday with Dr. Lopez.  First I want to say Dr Lopez and his team were the best. From my pick up at the airport by Frank to Myju meeting me at the hotel and Sandra meeting me the day of my surgery to go over all details than again after my surgery. Dr. Lopez was very attentive,  he met with me before the surgery, the next day after the surgery and visiting me once again at VIDA Boutique to check on me again.

All of his doctors on his team from Dr Ortiz - Dr Sanchez -Dr. AnaKaren and a his entire crew of physician and nurses were top notch, each one spoke very good English and were very skilled and knowledgable in this procedure.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the beautiful VIDA center, this building is like a 4 star hospital/hotel. While I was in surgery my husband stayed here on the 2nd floor while I was on the 4th  floor. He felt so much better being close to me. I had to stay in the hospital over night but he was able to visit with me directly after the surgery, before  he came back down to our room. I joined him the next day at the VIDA boutique. He has been bragging all day how they catered to him and how good the food was here at VIDA just like he was the patient.

I am so excited I chose Dr. Lopez and the VIDA center to have my surgery. If you are afraid to go to Mexico to have weight loss surgery don't be, take it from me a girl from the south I would recommend my Dr Lopez and VIDA to anyone.

Hi everyone, I'm here in TJ and every thing was excellent Dr Lopez and his team Frank, Sandra,Anakaren. And Myju is the bomb. I had my surgery on yesterday at the beautiful VIDA hospital and it was top notch.. The recover boutique is the equivalent of a 4 star hotel. I have had little to no pain, but I did have dry heaving after the surgery. That hurt ... It was like I was throwing up foam..I will also say sticking to my pre-op diet helped me stay disciplined. I was with my husband and he ate the best food while he was here..I wanted some so bad but being on the pre-op kind of disciplined me.. We did a lot of shopping, we went to the movies to see 50 shades of gray, and we enjoyed walking around the city. I felt very safe and I will be back after I have loss my weight for plastic surgery.. I will tell any and every body who wants to hear me...Going with Dr Lopez is the best decision I have ever made I just wish I would have did it years ago. I'll be back in 1year to have my plastic surgery at VIDA.. I wish you all well.. Let me know if you have any questions.

Topic: RE: Not taking my cell phone

Honestly, my husband works out of the country (WAY out...) and we use the new facebook messenger to make phone calls.  It sounds like he's sitting right beside me... never had a problem with it.  If you have an internet connection and a mic on your tablet/device, you should be able to use it for free.  It's just audio (not video like facetime or Skype can be...) but because of where he is, we find FB messenger to actually be a clearer call.  I'll be heading to Tijuana in 2 weeks (oh my goodness), and I think we'll just use that.
