Topic: RE: OT ~ Needing Surgery!

I have both issues going on.... Tons of leakage because of the fallen bladder, urgency, and the problem with not being able to empty my bladder.  Hopefully they will hook me up and I will be all better by mid-summer....

My test for the bladder is June 3rd, so after that I will get a surgery date....

Topic: RE: VSG vs. RNY??
If I were doing a revision, I would do the VSG.  It is less invasive and less traumatic, and seems to have good success without the malnutrition issues that come with RNY.

You could ask your question on the main board, but would probably start a surgery war.

My VSG is scheduled for May 23.  This was the best option for me because I was really nervous about the malabsorption stuff.  But just because this choice was best for me doesn't mean it is best for you!  I have family membersand friends who have had different procedures, pushing me to make the same choice they did.  But I looked at everything, and the VSG was--and still is--the option I am most comfortable with.  This is what I feel has the best chance of working for me.

Good luck choosing the best option for your life and your weight loss goals.

I chose the VSG, and am very happy with my choice.  For me, I was just too fearful of having my intestines rerouted and the malabsorption.  Just do alot of research and decide which surgery would suit you the best.  Remember you cannot take NSAIDS after RNY also.  That wasn't a big deal in my decision making, but I know it is for some.

Good Luck on making a choice!

I am currently waiting for someone to contact me to schedule my surgery date.  I origionally had my heart set on RNY but them my surgeon explained the VSG to me and now I am soo confused.  How did you all make your choice?

I went through the urodynamic testing a  few years ago and yes I  was mortified but the nurse who did it said it was routine and her bedside manner was a  huge relief for me. In my case my bladder hadn't fallen but just wasn't emptying completely so  put a  cough, sneeze or a  good belly laugh in there and  leakage happened. I  ended up getting a  medtronic interstem bladder implant. I love it!

Topic: My date is set!!!!
I got a call from the University of Michigan last Friday with my surgery date.  When she said she wanted to talk dates, I flipped my calender open to June.  She said, "We have an opening on the 23rd."  I said, "Wonderful!  June 23rd looks great."  To my great surprise (and tremendous delight!) she said, "Oh, not June.  I meant May 23rd."  That is two weeks from today!  Yay me!!!!!

Started my liquid only diet this morning.  I have to drive down to Ann Arbor every day for the next three days for pre-surgical appointments.  So happy that I feel like I could dance my way down there!!

Traci,

Thank you for saying something to the guy.  Its totally unacceptable to do that.  I do lock my dog in the car, but every singe window is open enough for his nose to stick out.  He is big so i don't want them down too much so he doesn't scare people.

I would have done the exact same thing.  Kudos to you.
