Can we eat this

Can we eat things like chicken spread or ham spread. It is in a can like potted meat. It is pretty high in fat but low in carbs and has protein in it.  I need something I can eat. I am having trouble with anything other than eggs (which I am not that crazy about.) soups, cottage cheese and cheese.  I am having trouble with meats. I know that I am only 2 months out so I am not to worried about it right this moment. Hopefully I will be able to eat more variety in the future.
Can we dump on fats or is it mainly sugar...don't want to dump......ever.....

Also does anyone take liquid calicum?  Lately when I take my calcium petites it feels like it gets stuck.

Hey Bev, I've had chicken salad in the little cans & Tuna salad in the little tub back by the deli in Wal-Mart & neither one of them bothered me.  I can tell you that I did something very stupid.  I made burgers the other night & just wanted a little bite.  Well 1 bite turned to 2, then pouch said "GET OUT!!!"  & it came back up.  Don't want to do that again.  lol  I'm really having trouble eating.  I don't want to eat anything.  I'm tierd of soups, eggs don't sound good to me, potatos are ok, but getting old too.  I've tried the tuna & chicken salads but they really don't taste good either.   I hope one of these days it gets easier.   (((HUGS))) Angy

Hi Angy,

I have tried tuna salad but it didn't agree with me at all, so I haven't tried it again yet..will wait awhile..I always like potted meat on crackers so I thought I would try it with the chicken or ham spread...
I can eat hamburger and it goes down well..stays there too...

I hear it will get better and I sure hope so....

Dear Bev,

I hated going through this stage because its that frustrating one, where you are getting to know your tummy again. I found at this stage that really crunchy stuff was the best.

Do you feel like your lactose intolerant now? Soups did NOT work for me at all-I dumped on ALL of them.....I did however, have good luck with making my own bouillon with the cubes. I could NOT do ANY processed meats-lunchmeat or otherwise. I dumped every time-so my lunchmeat had to come from the deli-and I could roll it up with a slice of cheese and eat it that way. I also liked the crunch of claussen pickles-minus the skin. I wish I had a better memory-but I know I would take 1/2 small potato-cut it up real good and bake it-nothing else-until it was crunchy and eat it like that-gave me the crunch and yes, I would do a couple of saltines-some dont eat anything white-rice, bread, saltines etc- BUT-WHEN you can-they do have low carb bread-toast a little pc and I could only eat a 1/4 of a slice.

Im almost 2 yrs out now, so I dont have all the memory I used to-but I am going to try and find my food journal and when I do-I will send you an email ok? Love ya, am thinking of you and praying you find your groove quickly! Love, Janet

Your surgery was the day before mine.  I tried the chicken salad in the can, small package with crackers, and didn't like.  So many foods just don't taste good any more.  Eggs are out.  I fixed one Saturday and just couldn't get it down.  White meat chicken won't go down and I used to love chicken.  Someone suggested eating the dark meat but I haven't brought myself to that point yet.  Soups go down well.  Certain brands of cottage cheese do well.  I made my Cottage Cheese Salad (large carton CC, 1 cup SF Cool Whip, 3 oz. pkg. SF Jello) and love it.  I eat cheese a lot.

Today I have Pimento Cheese spread for lunch.  I can eat so much and than it's like I shut down and would gag if I took another bite.

I'm so happy with my weight loss that eating is not nearly as important as it was pre-op.

As far as I know you can dump on sugar as well as high fat foods.  So far, I have never dumped but I have hurled many times.

I take calcium tablets and they do get stuck sometimes.

Your question about dumping on fats...I would have to guess, yes.  I just came back from the ER and even though I am sure I have a gallbladder issue the dr told me something in my labs was high and he suspected I dumped from maybe too much of a calorie intake at once.

I have tried egg salad and can eat it.  I tried tuna for 2 days and was very sick for those 2 days.  I even tried meatless meat and it also made me sick.  So for me, it is nooooo meats!

Did you know there are 30 grams of protein in just 1 cup of lowfat cottage cheese?  I threw out the shakes when I learned this the other day.
