MIS Group Toronto - When will they contact me???

HI, I sent in my questionairre June 16, 2008 and my doctor sent in the referral the same day.  Its takes them approximately 2 months to get back to you with a date.  I got word 2 weeks ago and my consult is tomorrow afternoon with Dr. Starr.  They have changed how they do things there since alot of other posters went to MIS Group.  Everything is done out of the hospital now and once your file has been looked at by the Doctors they will send you a letter giving you the name of the Doctor and date for your consult as well as the Nut,  Social Worker and class.  The whole process from start to surgery date is approximately 8 - 9 months.

If I were you I'd call Dr. Hagen's office which is where Dr. Huynh works out of as well.  416-782-2616.  Dr. Huynh would probably be able to see you the quickest and get your process going.

Hello and welcome!

Just so you know, there is a new surgeon that has joined the MIS group.  His name is Dr. Sohi.
You should inquire regarding the wait for this surgeon.
I am sure he was well trained by the other doctors in the MIS group.

Also, don't wait for them to call you....call them...you have to be proactive to get your WLS journey to begin.

I wanted to welcome you to the Ontario forum. It's a great place to ask questions & get answers.

In terms of the questionnaire, this seems to be a new process. Last August my doctor sent a referral directly to Dr. Starr's office & I had my referral with him about 4 weeks later. I had my surgery in March. So, about 6 months from consult to surgery for me. I think the average is 12 months or less.

With that said, there are a couple of things you can do to speed up the process. 1) You will be given the option of using the OHIP-covered Dietician & Social Worker or private ones. If you choose to self-pay the cost is about $350 total (in my case, my employer's medical coverage paid for it). I think this shaved off about 6 months from my wait time. 2) You need to really follow up with appointments. If appointments for SW, Dietician, Nutrician Seminar, Internist has not been made for you, call your surgeon's assistant & get them booked.

I'm going to give Dr. Sohi's office a call, and get things moving!  I can't have my surgery until next summer due to my work sched., but I know that it can take months and months to get a surgery date.....

The MIS group is expanding. There's now Dr. Starr, Hagen, Klein Huynh & now Sohi too! There's 5 surgeons! Thank goodness for the new funding from the Ontario government! Finally!

Great news. I have a consult with Dr. Huynh on Nov.6/08. Maybe my surgery date won't be quite as long as I thought. Yippee!!

They are, but apparantly you need to have your Dr's referral directed to one of them in order to get an appointment.  I think my Dr. made the referral out to Dr. Klein who, I understand, is extremely busy and, as a result, it takes forever to get a consult with him.
