Eating at Restaurants...???? HELP

Hi All
Over the next few months, I will need to eat out as my children have birthday's coming and we like to take them to their restaurant of choicee.  So far in December, my son wants East Side Mario's.

What are people eating when they go out to eat??  I was hoping my favourite fajeta's (spelt wrong) would be okay.  I just worry what the restaurant fry's it in.  Should I ask them to fry in something specific.  My husband orders them often so figured I could have one of his.

Any other ideas......I am at a loss.  I have tried chicken, and beef so meats and fish seem to be sitting well with me.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I was just away and we ate out alot. I was told by my nutritionist that I should start eating "flat breads" such as tortillas. While we were away, I had chicken quesadillas (which I only ate 1/4 of) and salads (only about 5 forkfuls). One night I tried chicken fingers but I could only eat 2/4 from the "kids menu". they usually bring fries and I substituted for salad.. but most of it was wasted... I also had a ham wrap with lettuce and could only eat about 1/3 of it one night. I also tried some beef with gravy (others ate it with a bun, but i did not) and it didnt like me.... I had chicken instead with some sweet potato and beans mmmmmmmmmm

You should find out exactly from your nutritionist what would be appropriate tho ;)
I would certainly NOT have pastas and such...

hope this helps and remember to check with your nutritionist

I tend to stick to salads with shrimp or grilled chicken on it. I've also had things like chicken quesadilla, grilled salmon or roast beef and always get either a salad or sesonal vegetables (which usually ends up being broccoli I've found) for the side.

I have the sleeve - so I don't have to worry about fat...but I will usually order off the appetizer menu at East Sides.  They have a shrimp thing that I like...Or I'll order the quarter chicken with salad or something on the side.  Sometimes I'll order an appetizer and then my hubby orders something that has meat - and we'll split both.

Just choose something that is meat based, and avoid pasta sides etc.  And bring home left overs  ;0)

Yeah I always bring home what I don't eat in a restaurant.  You pay good money for it so why throw it out? I usually get another two meals out of it at least.  I try to order some form of grilled chicken, not fried.  Fried foods make me toss my cookies.  It took me a long time to be able to eat salad but now that I can I find I enjoy the hell out of it.  I don't know what happened to me but veggies are now like candy to me.  I love it!

So always protien first, then I can have some veggies!

No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I am not 3 months out so salad is not an option......but I wish so because I am craving it like crazy.  I will definately take all of your suggestions and I appreciate your feedback.

Do I have to ask what they cook the food in??  Is any oil okay...I am just so worried.

Thanks everyone

Talk to your server about your dietary needs if you are comfortable doing so.  Usually they will bend over backwards to make sure you are safe and happy with your meal.  Most places will prepare you a Chicken breast with veggies and no sauce even if it is not on the menu.

If you are going to Mario's get the quarter chicken dinner - it is way better than swiss chalet!!!

Good luck!
