I emailed Nestle (the makers of Optifast) to enquire if you could make a hot drink with Optifast. Here is their reply.

Dear Ms. Smith,

Thank you for contacting us.

Yes the Optifast 900 powder can be mixed with warm or ho****er, however we do not recommend mixing with boiling water.

If you need any further assistance please contact us.

Thank you for choosing Nestle,

i was  also told it is  not recommended as it takes  some of the nutrients  out of it, and when we  are barley having any  as it is  i personally wouldn't  add boiling water, its  not a very  big drink as  you only add 300ml of  water to 1 packet

awesome!! I will definitely try it with warm water. Sometimes I feel like something warm, hot and sweet.

Sorry Mike but I think the maker of the product would know more than the surgeon's do about this product.  My surgeon had it confirmed with Nestle that it could be made with warm water as well but if you boil the water you end up with a mess.  I know a few that used their hot coffee to mix it with, they just let it sit on the counter a bit longer so it wouldn't be super hot then added the mix.
