YIPPEE!!!! I AM FINALLY APPROVED AFTER MANY DELAYS
Well I had my second appt. with the surgeon Dr.Hong today and he told me I have been approved for surgery. He said the letter my oncologist wrote convinced them. He actually told me their guidelines are that you have to be 5 yrs cancer free!! I thought it was 3 yrs so I am feeling very blessed. I am very excited and very scared at the same time. I will be having 4 surgeries at once. Removal of the lap band (that was done 3.5 yrs ago and did not work for me) revision to RNY, removal of my gallbladder ( I have had several severe attacks) and the repair of my hiatus hernia. That's if everything goes well and there is not too much scar tissue, otherwise my gallbladder will have to wait> Normally the surgery is about 2 hrs but he told me mine could be as long as 4 hrs. I will also have a few drainage tubes and a feeding tube in my abdomen. The feeding tube is precautionary in case I have a leak. I guess my chances of complications are higher due to the scar tissue from the lap band. Man I sure wish I had RNY 31/2 yrs ago instead of the band. Oh well there is no point in spending emotional energy there. The past is the past and when you know better you do better (to quote Oprah LOL). He gave me an Optifast Rx for 2 weeks and I actually requested 3 weeks. I figure the smaller my liver is the better. I want to do everything I can to make the surgery easier and hopefully decrease any complications. I have a second orientation July 7th and hopefully I will hear from Krista soon with my surgery date. Yikes this is really going to happen!!
Thanks to all of you for all your good wishes and all your great info shared on this site. I am sure this journey would be much more difficult without the support of all of you.
