2.5 week post op question/help on Poop
I'm 2.5 weeks post op. I haven't had a BM in 7 days. I don't feel like I need to go, I am having lots of gas, I have no pain/discomfort and my stomach isn't hard. Should I be taking something to get things moving? (I did go 3 times since surgery and all 3 were normal) I'm just worried now that it's been 7 days. I know I'm not eating much so I didn't know if my body is using ever thing it's taking in. I'm on the full fluid diet at the moment. Thanks for your help.
I was told to take a stool softener post op which I did for a few weeks until my "new normal" routine appeared to be established. It is very true that less in means less out and you may have fewer BMs but you don't want to wait until you are totally plugged before acting. Call your doctor and ask what they feel you should be taking or doing. Good luck and I hope everything gets moving on through ya soon.

I used Milk of Magnesia quite a bit in the first few months, but of course, check with your surgeon's office. Later on I used magnesium citrate capsules, works well.

I would definitely take action now, my experience after surgery last July took me by surprise and almost landed me in the hospital. I let it go too far after only a couple of days and had a difficult time getting things moving on my own. I used everything but I think the best was sodium docusate to stay regular.
Yup. Same here.
Waited too long - AND ingested too much fibre.
Wierd, huh?
Made the stools too LARGE to pass through.
So I used stool softeners for awhile - traumatic but they worked, and then I discovered SENNA TEA at the Bulk Food store.
Works like a charm.
Every three-four days, a cup of that before I go to bed, and everything moves just like normal.

Get the mail moving again, I had major issues with bowel movements after surgery.
Took Sodium docusate to get things moving. but not fun up to that point. I still have to take a stool softener, i think it's the iron and lack of fatty carbs that plug me up. I know i should eat more fiber.
Anyway, not something you want to wait out. Call the doc and see what he recomends.
