update for my friend...
I have been down to Sunnybrook to see her everyday. She is in good spirits considering everything that has happened.
She demanded that I go to work, so I picked up a shift for yesterday. Probably not such a good idea. Yesterday was my breaking day and broke down just before my shift. My boss walked in and asked "what are you doing here?" I told him that Kari was giving me **** for not being at work. I was bawling so much that he told my supervisor to take me somewhere to gather my composure. He asked me if I was going to be ok to work and was greatly concerned and I told him that I would be ok. Well, I did good til I walked into the recovery room and saw all the nurses watching the accident online. I said to the volunteer "what are you guys watching?" and he said "Oh, just that accident that was on hwy 7 on sunday" I started to cry again and said "that was my friend!!!" and ran out of the room bawling my eyes out. Just awful! a nurse came running out to console me and talk a little bit, she couldn't even look me in the eye.
Anyways, Kari, my friend and her daughter are doing remarkably well. Cassie is getting around really well by wheelchair. Kari has already started with physio and they are impressed with what she can do! :) She will be having surgery on her jaw, to repair both of her TMJs and chin, it will be wired shut for 4 weeks. She will have knee surgery at a later time. She has been cracking jokes like crazy, like we all always do :) She has alot of pins and bars and wires holding her together... she looks like frankenstein a little.. Her hips have huge bolts with a bar cuz her pelvis is shattered... Someone brought her a towel to hang off of it LOL she laughed really hard, as much as it hurt :)
I am doing ok, trying to eat and making sure I take my vitamins and drinking alot. I hate stress, it has made me lose 2 more lbs even with all the foods I am consuming. People at the hospital, her family, were saying everytime I turn around you're eating. I said YA, I have to...
Well, I am off. gotta get ready and head down.

And isn't it amazing how resilient kids are?
I mean, we are brought down by the tragedy and the awfulness of it all - and the implications for the future - and yet kids somehow pick up and keep on truckin'.
Thank God for that anyway.
You are such a good friend. I know she's a lucky woman to have someone with a heart as big as yours.

This is all so sad. Do they know what happened yet? Feel free to ignore if this is too personal a question, don't mean to intrude and cause more pain. I'm glad you're doing okay, and hope your friends will be strong and able to work through this tragedy.
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
