So I went to see my surgeon on monday and pick up my optifast.  I drove an hour and a half to get to the hospital just for his secretary to tell me he isn't in.....  I figured, no biggie, I am back on Thursday for my pre-op and will ask him my questions then.... nope.

I don't see the surgeon during my pre-op, the secretary tells me.

hmmm, so when do I get my questions answered? I asked her.

Oh, you don't have any questions, do you?  nnnoooo...  she tells me...

seriously?  Yes I have questions!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hiya,

Did you already meet with the surgeon and sign the consent form?  If so, that was the one meeting that normally everyone gets with the surgeon.  The next time you see them will be in the O.R.  If you have more questions, could you set another appt?  Or could you meet with someone else from the bariatric team to answer questions?  I guess it depends on the questions you have.

Good luck in finding answers.

At the preop you usually see a nurse, pharmacist, anesthesiologist and of course have your blood work down. Usually it is in a totally different dept.

Did you not see the surgeon when you signed your consents for surgery?
Can they make an appointment with the NP for you?

I signed the consent forms while I was there, the secretary just told me to sign them.  I'm not even sure what my questions are now, but I know I have some....

I think this liquid diet is causing liquid brain...

That was really odd. The surgeon should have explained everything to you plus risks. I would certainly reccommend calling and asking for an appointment with the surgeon. As a nurse I would not have a patient sign a consent for surgery much less a secretary.

The liquids do get to you. I still have one more week on full fluids and I repeat myself all the time. From what I hear it gets worse before it gets better.

Good luck with the surgeon.

When I saw the surgeon he gave me his card and told me to call or email him anytime if I had any questions.
