It is the end of my 7th day on Optifast and I am going to lose my friggin mind.  If I had 1 week left, I could handle it but I have to do this for another 2 weeks.
Why I cannot add a bit of tuna to a salad or maybe some chicken is beyond my realm of understanding,  am I not going to be okay during surgery?  is it a measure to prove I can handle life post op?  because i can assure you, I will be just fine!
If it is to drain the fat from my liver, will chicken, tuna or fish really stop that from happening? I seriously have my doubts!

Cruel and Unusual punishment I tell you!!

Sabrina......

I had Dr. Sullivan, and all I can say is he knows what he's doing and the last thing I would want to do is go against his orders and put your surgery at risk.  I've seen him be tough about someone who wasn't willing to follow the rules, and he dropped them and fast.

He's put you on optifast for 3 weeks for a reason, so don't monkey with it.

Good luck!

Hi Sabrina....when I started Optifast (one year ago today) I had the worst experience with it,  I was sick the first 4 days and couldn't keep the stuff down.  However, after 4 days, I was able to drink it because I added suger free syrup to it.  It was the longest 3 weeks of my life!  However, it was well worth it.  Because I followed the rules, the surgery was a breeze with no side effects.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!  I was hungry for the first week and then it got better.  I PROMISE YOU IT WILL GET BETTER.  Try to keep yourself busy so you don't have much time to think about it.  For me, I went to bed early every night (normally, I am a night hawk) just so the time would go by faster and it worked.

Just think, you only have 2 weeks left.  It will go by fast and it is definately worth the effort.

Yep, I would wish Optifast on my worst nightmare. BUT you will survive!!!! I was sick the entire time I was on it to the point that my surgeon called and said get off it and use....Well I said no. I promised myself I would not let anything stand in my way. So for 2 weeks I was bedridden, crying, weak and had it coming out all ends.
I made it through surgery and I'm very proud of my accomplishment. The end result is your health, your happiness and your life back.
Keep going. If you need to talk I'm in Orillia also, we can have coffee (well you know) if you want. We can support ach other post surgery as well.

It's really not that bad. I have been on it for 5 weeks. I don't get to have veggies or anything else with it. Just Optifast, Jello, Crystal ligh****er, decaf coffee, decaf tea and broth. For me it was just a bump in the road that you HAVE to do. I found no reason to get upset about it. You have to do it to get this surgery so I just sucked it up and did it.

Omg, I have to start Friday and I am dreading it! But I am also looking forward to it.  Meals will be so easy and I am looking forward to the weight loss and the surgery to follow.  I guess I'll know in a few days....

You can do it! I added decaf coffee to mine (300ml) instead of the water and it was soooo good!

To put it all in perspective:

IT'S ONLY 21 DAYS OF YOUR LIFE!

After surgery you have another several weeks of limited diet as well.  So in the grand scheme of things, it isn't all that bad considering some people don't have ANYTHING to keep soul and body together.

It is an easy way to ensure that you are getting the proper nutrition while helping you lose weight and reduce the fat from around your liver.  Doing this right means the difference between a laparascopic surgery, open surgery or NO SURGERY.

So if three weeks of having EVERY MEAL decided on for you is too hard, how are you going to cope when you have to make conscious decisions about what you safely can and cannot eat without cheating?  And if you do this - who is the person you are hurting and punishing?  YOU!

So for 21 days, you have to endure drinking 4 shakes a day, plus all the broth and jello and sugar free popsicles you can stand.  And in return, you get a tool, which when used properly, will lead you to a long life of good health.
