WOW Joyce, way to be prepared!   Have you checked out the recipe forum?  There is an entire thread called "Surviving Optifast".

Sabrina  "YOU CAN DO IT"

Now having said that if we didn't care we would not have taken the time out to reply to your post. We all struggled through Optifast. Its to bad you considered it a "lecture" instead of some words of wisdom from people that have traveled down that rocky road.

Consider me scolded.

I think the problem was the title 'optifast is cruel and unusual punishment' and that you were feeling that adding tuna or chicken shouldn't be unreasonable. Well right there with those 2 statements the feeling that the rest of us get is that you don't feel you should be compliant with a system that works.

I agree with JennR

My posts were just reminders that the Optifast is an easy way for the clinics to help you maintain the required pre-surgery diet without having to count calories, carbs, fat and protein intake.

Plus once again, in the grand scheme of things in your life - 3 weeks is a REALLY brief time and just about everyone here has been through it and very few people actually liked Optifast.  I don't really like protein shakes period, but they do serve a purpose when my stomach isn't feeling cooperative with food post-surgery.

Not following things after surgery can result drastic medical issues and it's important that everyone takes the drastic action of having your digestive system permanently altered seriously.

Sorry that I don't sugar-coat things, but weight loss surgery ISN'T easy and it WILL impact you for the rest of your life!  If you want everything to be all right, you have to be willing to accept responsibility for your health and future!  If you're willing to accept that responsibility and follow what your clinic has set out for you or work with them to find something that will, then you'll be fine!

Personally I'm just so glad to not have to be doing a bowel prep before this surgery.
I have had to do them with most all my other lap surgeries and now that was HELL!!
Especially after waiting in hosp room for half a day starving and  doc comes in and says "I had a complicaated surgery this afternoon and I just won't be able to do yours now." And then said.. "oh and we gave you one of the old bowel preps that we don't use anymore so this next one should be way easier on you." ARRRRG I wasn't impressed.. but it is what it is.
Sorry kinda got carried back to the  trauma of that experience LOL  so ya.. I'm relieved I just have  the opti fast.. mind you wait a coupl weeks when I will be starting mine and we will see if I'm still so happy LOL
You can do it. just keep telling yourself that it's for your own safety of the procedure really, heck you had the guts to come to this surgery decision you have the guts to take on the opti fast.

I had to go through the bowel prep twice last month - the first time round they gave me the wrong date (in writing), and there was no one to do the colonoscopy.  So, I got to do the prep again the next week!!!!  Gotta say - not my favourite thing to do once, let alone twice!  However, it was one more thing I needed to accomplish, and it's done.
