I Am Just About One Year Out And I Am Legitamitely Worried That My Pouch Is Stretched.

Yesterday, I Had A "Bad Day". And Those "Bad Days" Have Been More And More Frequent Lately. It Was My Son's Birthday And I Ate Loaded Nachos (Ground Beef, Cheese, Etc), Chocolate Cake, Ice Cream Cake, 12 Fun Size Chocolate Bars, Cheezies.. I Was Out Of Control. But I Don't Understand How I Was Physically Able To Eat All That? Where Is My Restriction????

This Is Why I Think My Pouch Is Stretched. I Am Wondering If There Is A Medical Test (Like An X-Ray Or Scope Or Something) That I Can Get To Check To See The Size Of My Pouch??

I KNOW That I Also Need To Seek Help For My Food Addiction.. But Right Now I'm Just Wondering About My Pouch Stretching.

Hi Justine,

You don't mention over what period of time you were able to take all of this in. I know myself that if I "graze" I can eat a lot more than when I stick to my 3 meals/2-3 snacks at regimented times.

I think more than the worry of your pouch stretching would be the concern that your stoma has stretched out, allowing larger amounts of food to be passed through quickly. Your pouch will stretch a little over time, and more if you are consistently over-loading it. Same with your stoma.

A scope can be done to see what's going on with your stoma and pouch - definitely contact your surgical centre about this if it concerns you. But, to be honest, I'd be more concerned with the food choices you're making, which you mentioned. Good luck to you in getting back on track and using your tool. Keep us updated!

Hi Justine.

I completely agree with what Karen's said. Your stomach is not the issue here, its your head.

Even if you did have a scope to show that your pouch or stoma were stretched, what would you do about it? Re-restricting (if that's possible, i dont know if it is) is NOT THE ANSWER!!!! get yourself some help for your head. Get to a support group. Call your WLS centre and see the dietitian. Call your doctor and get a referral to a psychologist.

myke, i haven't dumped yet. Ate small amounts of sugary stuff. I think only 30% of RNY people dump. It's scary.

When I First Got My Surgery (RNY), I Was SOOO Strict And Followed Everything Perfectly. I Wouldn't Eat Anything With Even A Gram Of Sugar In It. And Then Maybe 7 Months Out Is When It Starting Slipping..

I Still Do Very Well Most Of The Time, But When I Have My Bad Days.. They Are BAD. I Can Eat SO Much.

As For Yesterday, I Ate Like 2 Servings Of Nachos And 2 Meatballs At Around 1:30 or 2:00. I Ate Them Fast And Got Bad Foamies. Then About 1/2 Hour Later, I Ate A Slice Of Chocolate Cake And Ice Cream Cake. My Stomach Hurt After That And I Laid On The Couch For A While. Then Around 4:30, I Ate The Chocolate Bars and Cheezies. At Around 7:30, I Started Picking At The Icing On The Cake And Leftover Nachos. I Had To Go To Bed At 9:00 Because I Had Such Bad Stomach Cramps.

I Am TERRIFIED Of Christmas Now Because I Don't Want To Do This To Myself. I Feel So Mentally Awful Today. I Don't Know Why I'm Doing This To Myself.

let it go. Guilt won't help  you. Resolve to do better, starting now. Get some therapy, seriously. You need to take charge of this. I'm 8 months out now, and realize how easy it is to slip into old habits.

Yes, that sounds like grazing, which is why you were able to fit so much in.  Your body tried to warn you - foamies, sore stomach, having to lay down.  You know, it's SO easy to fall back into old bad habits.  You recognize that something isn't right here - first step.  Justine, come back and post more often so we can support you and offer advice if you want it.  Maybe start with the "what are you eating today" thread each day to try to get you planning and tracking what you're eating.
