OMG - there must have been something in the air yesterday.  I'm almost 9 months out.  Yesterday was my FIRST binge in 10 months.  I am so disappointed with myself, and yes- SCARED!

I started to become "food restless" (if that makes sense ) at around 3:00PM; so went for an 90 minute walk with the dog, made a protein rich dinner I like (greek yogurt & fruit with all bran crunchies), and hoped for the best.  At 8:00PM I began to get restless again, and since my DH was in the bedroom (my retreat!) and I didn't want to be where he was bcs I was mad, I stupidly stayed in the kitchen with our sick dog who needed meds at 9:00.  And off I went!  And I really couldn"t  seem to stop until my pouch finally register full.  Corn thins, tzatziki, a little focacia, a piece of chocolate!  I didn't eat as much as I used to, but I was definitely not exercising control, I recognized this, and I still kept going ;(

So yes, a NEW DAY.  My daughter is my life line, and we talked about what happened this morning.  She made 4 suggestions that I'll pass on just in case they are helpful .....

1) Stop taking care of everyone else when you're in crisis.  Take care of yourself instead.  If you need a rationalization for this - a healthy YOU is good for them too in the long run.  If something consequently doesn't get done the way you want it, or you have to leave something/someone else in the lurch SO BE IT.  Make yourself a priority for a change.

2) Get away from the food.  Go to another room, outside, wherever - just don't have the food easily accessible.

3) Distract yourself.  She recommended plugging in some music you really like and listening while you keep doing whatever it is you have to do (and just might be part of the underlying problem / reason you want to eat).

4) Tell yourself that if you eat more than you should, you have to compensate with more exercise - AND BEFORE BED.  And MEAN IT.

Good luck to us both

Look.  Having surgery doesn't change who we are.  It just is a tool.  We all have a food addiction.  If we didn't there would have been no need for surgery in the first place.

If there is junk in the house, I will be drawn to it and depending upon how I feel that day, I may succumb and eat it.  I buy the groceries in my house and I have made the decision that for MY health and the health of my HUSBAND, who is a diabetic, the stuff we should not eat WILL NOT ENTER.  My kids are fully capable of getting whatever junk they want, just not in our home.  In the end, we all benefit.

Your son would also benefit from a healthier diet.  The nachos are fine but maybe you could think of acceptable alternatives for the choco bars and cheesies.  Maybe something like choco dipped fruit which is very festive but a better choice overall and would leave you feeling good at making a healthier choice for yourself and your family.

Take baby steps at introducing these foods.  See what they like and add more of those BEFORE you take away the unhealthy choices or you may have a mutiny.  Maybe make Friday night "Junk Food night" like pizza night.  My hubby makes pizza but leaves cheese and meat for me and I put it on my tortilla and am happy.  If I am still hungry I have fruit and decaf coffee with Sugar free torani syrups and I am definitely finished after that.

Good luck

Hi Justine.

I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time.  I can't really add anything to what's already been said, so I'd just like to reiterate that there is a lot of support here and encourage you to keep on posting.  You CAN get things back under control with some behavioural changes, a support group, and maybe some help from the behaviourist at your clinic.  Good luck!
