I can't believe it's in the past..
Well finally got released from the hospital today. I really thought I'd only be in for maybe three days but my awesome doc wanted to make sure all things were covered so he sent me for a doppler test today and when it came back clear I was given the ok to come home.. although I have to give myself injections of bloodthinner twice daily for 16 more days
Had a real rough first couple of days.. was sooo sick but it was mostly from the iv drugs..I shudder when I think back.. I had to make decisions if I wanted the pain or the nausia.. I opted for pain and they finally took the self pump off after I stopped using it on day three.
I also cannot believe how scared I was moments before being wheeled in.. I was sobbing in my hubby's shirt saying I'm so scared.. But I made it 'knock on wood"
Have lost a total of ten lbs since admission, but I think some is from not having much fluid in me.. it's super hard to get that 64 oz in I tell ya when you are sip sip sipping.
Still have pain when I swallow and burping is the worst but other than that I fared pretty well and was off all pain meds other than a bit of codeine on day three.
My homecoming wasn't quite what I expected and hubby and I got into an argument like an hour after arriving home
I wasn't discharged til late in the day and got home an hour before our regular supper time. I wasn't so thrilled that I had to get home and make supper for my kid as well as tidy up the kitchen mess and sweep the floors.. I mean my mom was here helping him for four days looking after Eli and making meals.. he could have at least let me bond with my couch when I got home.. but that's the man I chose to marry LOL
Anyhoo.. I'm anxious to start the rest of my journey.

Whip your husband with a wet noodle! My husband wasn't much better I have to confess but he was pretty good for the first few days post-op. At least tell me you don't have to go back to work immediately!!! I'm glad to hear that things are okay now. It is scary and I don't blame you for freaking out a little. I'm a nurse so I was pretty cool the whole time if I do say so myself.
The worst bit for me was post-op in recovery because I was in a lot of pain and I was not overwhelmed by my nurse. But nurses make the worst patients, probably worse than doctors!!
Anyway keep sipping and walking cause you'll be doing a lot of that!!

Thanks Jenn, I will def continue to drink, think I may set a timer tomorrow. I dont have to go to work.. so I'm home.. just have to get my lil one to and from school. I think I'll talk to hubby tomorrow and just tell him I will need a bit more help with getting he and son's suppers for the next week. It's hard for me to have my hands all over that food. I'd rather sit back and have my soup and be seperated from the food for a bit til my head can wrap around it all. Dishes hurt too cuz my counter is right at level with my staples and it still sticks out and rubs LOL.. so the man that said he'd be there to help out will just have to step up.
Wishing you a better day, today. Keep up with the pain meds the first few days home, it's quite a shock doing stairs and normal activies. Be patient with yourself, go slow and remember there are a lot of hormones floating around your body as the fat breaks down. You are home and safe, everything else will fall into place. Diane
Will take a kayaking trip summer 2012, freedom
Ruby, the dishes will stay there, they are NOT going anywhere, and the mess will stay right there on the floor if you don't sweep it up. Tell him you need help, and if he doesnt do it, don't you do it either. Chances are no one will starve, if you don't do the cooking. As long as there is bread and peanut butter, they can eat. They'll do without a complete meal for a while, maybe, but they won't starve, guaranteed.
Remember that you need to take care of yourself. YOU are the priority right now, not the dishes, not the kids supper, not the sweeping.

So glad to hear you are home! Everyone is right, you have to come first right now! It will help you recover and be able to be ready for all the cleaning and everyday stuff healthy and it will wait!
I had the exact same experience as you in the hospital. So sick from the IV drugs I opted to say no and take the pain (didn't have much pain though) nausea was worse.
Your going to do great! Get all your fluids in.

Thank you Monica for saying what I wanted to say.
As someone who just had surgery a few days before RubyTues, I am horrified that someone who allegedly loves you would even allow you to lift a finger the day you got home! You just had major surgery, you were in pain and nauseated, and an able-bodied man could not get supper for his own children? Or do the dishes?
I am soooooo lucky that my kids are grown and mostly self-sufficient around here, and my husband made sure that he was looking after my every need while I healed. When I mentioned to him that the kitchen counter was the same level as the incision, he insisted I stay away from the sink, and if I wanted anything he and the kids would make sure I got it. Aren't they sweet?
Be sure to tell your husband that he's not looking very attractive to all the ladies on this forum, k?
Best wishes with everything, Ruby. You had a great surgeon, so you have a good start!
