how long before
I had surgery on a Thursday and the nurse helped me shower on the Saturday. Aaaah, it was so nice to feel clean! Especially since one of my incisions kept opening up and bleeding all over everything for the first 24 hours or so...Oh, and I also yanked out my IV rolling over in bed the first night.
It all seems so long ago now...

Hi Filomena,
The morning after surgery, the PAC - Toyin came by asking my roomie and I if we were ready to have a shower. The bariatric rooms are across the hall for the kitchen and the shower room nearby.
Toyin takes you to the shower room. I brought my travelling toiletry case (own shampoo, body wash, face cleanser). Ask for new hospital gowns to wear afterwards. You strip down (including the sexy white compression stockings) and Toyin will ask you to sit down in the shower area (in case you get weak). There is a hand held shower head. Toyin adjusted the water temperature. You take the shower spray and wet yourself. Personally I wet my hair first to clean it. Then she handed me the bottle of shampoo. After this, she handed me a facecloth and I added the body wash to it. You cannot rub your tummy (where surgical tape is), but the water can roll down your body. Then you wash the rest of your essentials. I then stood up to reach everything well and rinsed down. Then Toyin offered to wash my back. She took the facecloth and did from my neck down to my ankles and rinsed me off. Glorious.
I took one of the towels (not large) and wrapped my hair up. Then I took another towel and dried off the essentials....and put on the clean hospital gown, put another one on backwards as a house coat., dried my feet and slipped back into my slippers and walked back to my room.
My Mom was there and when I came back from the shower, she applied lotion to my calves and feet, and arms. Then she brushed my hair. My Mom is 79, and still loves being a Mom. LOL
The nurse helped me by putting the compression stockings back on. She used a pair of rubber gloves to get traction as they fit very tightly.
My roommate was next.
I didn`t bother having a shower the next morning (had brought baby wipes in my toiletry bag). I was supposed to leave by 10 a.m. I had my next shower the first full day home.
Good luck on Friday!!
Judy
