Results of Telling
First...thank you so much for all of your support, stories and suggestions. I love being able to come here and know that people will support and offer advice. It truly is a wonderful thing.
So I met with my brother and SIL. They are very supportive and respectful of my choice. They had lots of questions, which I answered. Concerns about the safety of the surgery, but all and all they said they would be there for me and my family. It was hard and emotional for me to tell them but I did it and feel better about having done so. Hopefully it will help me move forward with telling more ppl.
Thank you again for being wonderful and here!! lol

I know that TELLING is a huge hurdle for some of us, and in my mind I always thought that had more to do with us fat girls constantly apologizing for taking up space in this world (how dare we?).
But I am realizing that there is more to it.
On the one hand, it's such an extremely personal thing for us, wrapped up in our shame and our body image, and event the constant awareness of ourselves as not fitting in with the norm.
On the other hand however, for "normal" people, it is really a lot simpler - it's just like informing your colleagues that your child has measles, you may be off for a few days.
They usually see it as a simple notification, nothing more.
And then of course there's the "need to know" stuff - is it their business? Probably not.
Show they know about restrictions you may face or support you may need? Probably.
So congratulations, I'm glad you did this, and hopefully it'll get easier and more rewarding the more people you feel empowered to tell.

That is so well said, Gaby. It is so personal, soooo wrapped in our own perceptions and our own biases against ourselves.
It really isnt anyone's business but our own, yet it affects so many parts of our lives that we need to share with people.
I also see sharing my decision as "spreading the word" about this life changing surgery, and hopefully, the more people that know about it, the more obese people can benefit from this. I still run into so many people who think its not covered by ohip, who think its the same as the lapband surgery, etc etc, so its like public education for me.

You must feel so relieved - glad it went so well!
