Need advice for the best place to stay in Hamilton that's near St Joes Healthcare
As the title says, I'm looking for some advice on the best area/hotel etc that's near st joes healthcare. I will be arriving on feb 8th, surg is on the 10th
Also any advice for the best shuttle, bus, limo service from Toronto (flying in with porter) to hamilton?
I asked the person that's in charge of it here in thunder bay and she was kind of vague....so I thought to ask on the forum as many of ou have stayed in Hamilton.
Thank you kindly!

I live in the Hamilton area. There is an airport shuttle from Pearson to Hamilton. But that's no good for you. I've not yet travelled from the island airport where Porter is stationed. If you are a CAA member they can give you all the details about this.
Two hotels near st. Joes are the Sheraton on king street, the days inn on dundurn street. There a re a few more but can seem to remember their official names. AgainCAA can give you that info and even book for you. All this being said it's really not that much help. Good luck in your search

I used fleet limo from Pearson to Hamilton 2 years ago and their prices were reasonable. You may want to check their prices from downtown to Hamilton. Since the Porter Shuttle drops you off at the Royal York, there are likely a lot of limo services available right there. Maybe ask Porter if they have any recommendations as well.

We stayed at the Crown Plaza in Hamilton - it was about a 12 minute walk to the hospital, and under $7 for a cab. Hotel rate was round $100/night. Many people have been staying at the Mark Preece Family House (find it online) for about $40/night. It looks beautiful, but there's no alcohol allowed, and there are "rules". I believe it has separate bedrooms, and common kitchen/living room areas. Perhaps someone who's stayed there will chime in. We opted for the hotel b/c there was no way my husband was going to not enjoy some wine from the wineries while we were there!!
Can't comment on shuttles b/c we rented a car from Enterprise at the airport. B/c we were there a few days before, and it was summer, we wanted to tour around. It was cheaper to rent the car for a week than it was to shuttle us both to and from the airport, and rent daily for whatever we wanted to do. Rental for a week was around $500 - worth it for our needs.
Congrats on your upcoming hot date!

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
check out the "Mark Preece" house... it's similar to the ronald mcdonald house... very inexpensive.... i believe "Bain" stayed there or her mom?? i know someone from up there did! it's not too far from st joe's... (actually closer to the general but oh well). unfortunately such a big city of hamilton is (and i live here) .. we really suck as far as nice hotels go! AND THAT'S MY 2 CENTS WORTH! especially downtown! good luck!
Yes, it was Robin H. / Bain who stayed at Mark Preece House. The only downside is that you can't make reservations, and you can't have a room if you're not actually there (that is, you can't reserve/keep your room to go back to after surgery if you're alone, unlike a hotel).
Contact Robin H. for more info on that. She was just there in December.
Good luck with your surgery.

omg i stayed at mark preece house it was amazing beautiful grat staff and only 40.00 only $7.00 cab ride to st|Joes feel free to add me on facebook i have pictures from my stay there i was so impressed saved tons as they usually provide at least one or 2 meals a day for my companion. name on face book is Robin Haliuk. I can fill you in on all the details. i took airtransit pre book and they will be waiting for you about 87 one way per person then took the medical car by the same company on the way back it was 120.00 for both of us so cheaper and easier was a lincon town car right to my gate. this was from pearson though. You can take the go train for much cheaper when you arrive but would recomend a car to take to to the airport post surgery.
